Attorney with managerial, operational, and budget expertise providing legal services to non-profit organizations related to philanthropy and charitable giving.As counsel to a private foundation that prioritizes investments in environment and sustainability research and technology, my responsibilities include ensuring all philanthropic activities are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with payment terms, legal and regulatory compliance provisions, financial and programmatic reporting requirements, and data privacy and security protections. Prior to my current role, I spent time in (and then escaped from) both BigLaw and municipal government where I served as Associate Commissioner of the Office of Labor Policy and Standards at the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. I am also a former prosecutor and police officer.I have spoken publicly on issues relating to municipal labor policy, the regulatory impact of pending legislation on businesses, workers, and consumers, police and law enforcement strategies as well as how municipal government agencies manage budgets, staffing, investigations, and operations. I have lectured and led discussions in academic (i.e., the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service), government (i.e., consulting with other government agencies), and corporate settings (i.e., investor calls organized by commercial financial institutions). In addition, I am a frequent contributor to Kiplinger in articles related to labor and employment laws as well as an instructor in CLE courses offered by LearnFormula. Previous legal experience includes:- Representing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in criminal cases before the Quincy District Court, Woburn District Court, and Massachusetts Appeals Court.- Representing the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection in civil cases before the New York State Supreme Court and the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.- Testifying before the New York City Council while serving as Associate Commissioner, including on proposed legislation to protect survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking.
