About Steven Thorp
I graduated from CSUSB with an M.S in Environmental Geology in June of 2019 and graduated from California Baptist University (CBU) with a B.S in Environmental Science and a minor in Global Justice in May of 2017. At CBU, I conducted research with faculty on the effects of engineered nano materials on soil chemistry and plant physiology, receiving several awards from my University in recognition of my research. At CSUSB, my thesis research involved mapping and quantifying As and Hg contamination within the mine tailings of the former Calico silver mine, while also extrapolating on possible environmental & human health effects and highlighting remediation techniques that may be beneficial to future site cleanup projects, including the proposal of on-site extraction of the silver still present within the tailings. The fields of study I find great interest in include, but are not limited to: Renewable energy infrastructure, bioremediation, Industrial ecology, rhizosphere interactions, phytoremediation, soil chemistry, consulting, and environmental stewardship. I am self driven and motivated to better our world to a more sustainable future and take great interest in environmental projects both foreign and domestic. I am Fluent in English and Spanish, semi-fluent in Japanese, and am currently studying German and Portuguese. Environmental geologist responsible for conducting environmental investigations, overseeing remediation implementation, field sampling of various media (soil, soil vapor, groundwater, indoor/outdoor air, etc.), health & safety plan creation and oversight, and project coordination. I am also experienced in Phase I/II reporting, project reports, workplan writing, and installation of both groundwater wells using various drilling techniques and soil vapor/sub-slab soil vapor wells.

Worked with local, state, and federal entities for approval of remediation and construction projects at the Salton Sea, working with Representatives of the Bureau of Land Management, USGS, US Fish and Game, Riverside County, Imperial County, Imperial Irrigation District, Coachella Valley Water District, Auduban California, and the Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indian Tribe. Also provided expertise on matters regarding scientific studies and projects being conducted at the Sea. Proposed bio remediation plans regarding the removal of dioxins, selenium, and halogens around and within the Salton Sea.
