I was supposed to be a chef, not an insurance broker. I had my uniform in hand from Le Cordon Bleu. Dad offered to pay the tuition if I deferred my enrollment and worked for him for the summer.Summer turned into a year, then two, then five. I appreciated the bait and switch once I understood that Dad wanted to leverage my natural capacity for change, innovation, and problem solving. I became a master at field underwriting edge cases for life, disability, and health insurance. Our roster of 2000+ physician clients routinely called me a "hero" while also osmosing me with the medical knowledge needed to justify desired underwriting outcomes.Dad passed abruptly in 2006, taking with him decades of knowledge he had yet to pass on. A partner rescinded an agreement responsible for much of our residual income. I was left with everything and nothing all at once as a scared kid, a first-time business operator, and certainly nothing resembling a salesman like my father.I rebooted the company as Griswold & Griswold Insurance Agency (GxG), teaching myself the nuances of P&C and the rest is history.→ 2013: Griswold & Griswold became one of the first insurance agencies in the country to receive a B-Corporation certification, followed by an unmatched 3x "Best for the World" win in 2019, 2021, and 2022.→ 2016: I started a vertical-specific co-brand, the world's first and only mission-aligned agency in the vegan and animal rights space. This vertical grew 60% YOY solely by word of mouth.→ 2018: My team and I found our groove in distressed / complex / hard-to-place risk. I built SOPs and workflows to underwrite circles around our competition, achieving a 100% quote rate on submissions. Other impressive metrics included 98% client retention and a <25% loss ratio. → 2019: With the participation of my stellar team at GxG, we founded Fractional Risk Management to provide standalone policy oversight and risk control services to midmarket clients, revealing over $25M in uncovered liabilities and reducing long-term costs by over $5M.→ 2023: I exited the retail space and had my first taste of running a seed-stage startup as Chief of Staff. Turned out being a jack-of-all-trades comes in handy as I refined our business plan and investor decks, led the product team, and created a multiple-front communications strategy.→ 2024: I am currently the Director of Insurance & Risk Management for Heritage Brands / Rockview Dairies, one of the largest food production companies in California. I am responsible for managing of all their insurance lines across several entities.

In 2019, I selected a few key employees to start a first-of-its-kind fractional risk management consulting firm, geared towards advisory and management of insurance policies. This allowed us to monetize our talents and knowledge on an hourly / project basis without the onus of selling product or running afoul of insurance laws.We successfully mitigated client XMODs by up to 40% using loss prevention, loss reduction, and claims management resources. Clawed back workers' comp audit premium from carriers. Our flagship offering was a proprietary risk analysis / benchmarking format inspired by Munro automotive. Our team would work with midmarket clients, disassembling every single policy for an insured, comparing it to the actual risk profile. Our findings were suprising, to say the least.I formatted our offering to be accessible direct to insureds, brokers (as a CYA tool), and as a value-add to professionals on a white-label basis.This entity and its offerings are currently on hold, but keep an eye on this space.

Griswold & Griswold Insurance Agency (GxG) was a superhero-powered commercial insurance agency taking on everything that others wouldn't. We specialized in what I liked to call "weird risk," but really encompassed all sorts of hard-to-place exposures from nonprofit to commercial property to startups who either (A) could not obtain coverage or (B) could not obtain USEFUL coverage as a result of their losses, exposures, or operations. Finding that the standard commercial brokerage model was poorly equipped to handle risks that required nuance or rehabilitation, we developed a proprietary underwriting workflow (yes, our small agency had an actual full-time underwriter on staff) that was able to give us a 100% hit rate for quotes. With us, nothing was "uninsurable."We pulled clients out of last resort carriers or lapses, often getting them placed back in the admitted market, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars and ensuring removal of multiple game-ending exclusions. Today, I'm proud to say that all of our former staff have been propelled to great heights in their careers in product development and underwriting.
