Steven Hale serves as the agency’s Deputy Treasurer for Investments. He is responsible for management and supervision of the investment activities conducted through and for the Treasurer’s Office, including the state’s $9.1 billion General Portfolio and the $2.1 billion Local Government Investment Pool, among others. He has a broad range of investment management experience in both the private and government sectors, including fixed income research, portfolio management and private investments. Steven received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Brandeis University and MBA in Finance from Columbia University.

Followed as many as 250 companies. Management responsibilities included development and supervision of three junior analysts, summer interns and trainees from international business units. Portfolio management experience included two investment grade portfolios aggregating $220 million from 1996- 1997. Outperformed the benchmark index both years.

Generalist in Prudential's private investment area, which sought to place capital directly with companies. Expertise included debt, equity, structured and LBO financing. Primary responsibilities included credit analysis, industry research, marketing, deal structuring and legal review. Closed 7 transactions.
