I am proud to be a volunteer board member serving an organization of amazing innovation. Formed over 50 years ago, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), the nation's premier federally funded atmospheric and earth sciences research facility, on behalf of the National Science Foundation. With an annual budget of close to $250 million and a staff of 1,400, NCAR conducts a wide range of climate, weather, solar science and related applications research.UCAR Exchange, and its predecessor foundation, has engaged in technology transfer and commercialization for NCAR and UCAR scientists, engineers, educators, and other specialists since 1986.UCAR Exchange is responsible for licensing technology directly to commercial companies. It also invests in business development as a means of bringing the fruits of NCAR and UCAR research to society. The organization's efforts amplify the benefits of publicly supported science and establish independent sources of revenue to help support further research at NCAR and UCAR. These efforts provide important benefits to the public, protecting lives and property and promoting economic growth.
