STEVEN M. BIERMAN, founder of Bierman ADR LLC, is an independent arbitrator, mediator, and dispute resolution advisor, and a former leader of the New York Litigation Group at Sidley Austin LLP. Steve brings 45+ years' experience in helping to achieve creative and practical solutions to a wide range of complex business and other disputes. Steve is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and is accredited as a mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR). Steve serves as a neutral on multiple ADR rosters, including the American Arbitration Association (AAA) National Commercial Roster of Arbitrators and Mediators and the AAA Consumer Arbitration Panel, CPR International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution's Panels of Distinguished Neutrals (arbitrator, mediator, and dispute prevention), and the Mediation Panels of the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Supreme Court of the State of New York Commercial Division. Steve is Chair of the American Bar Association’s 2024 Advanced Mediation and Advocacy Skills Institute and chaired the 2023 Institute, is Co-Chair of the ABA Dispute Resolution Section's Mediation Committee, and Co-Chair of the CPR Mediation Committee. Steve previously was a partner at Sidley Austin LLP, where he headed or co-headed the firm’s New York Litigation Group for 25 years and was a leader of its global Complex Commercial Litigation practice and a member of the firm's Executive Committee. Steve represented a diverse international roster of corporate and individual clients in high-stakes commercial, corporate, financial, business tort, securities, antitrust, bankruptcy, consumer, art-related, and workplace litigation and arbitrations. Steve has been widely recognized, including by Benchmark Litigation as a U.S. and a New York Litigation Star, Best Lawyers in America, and The Legal 500 in Commercial Litigation. He was Editor of The Complex Commercial Litigation Law Review (Law Business Research, 3d ed.), which surveyed issues in commercial disputes across 30+ jurisdictions worldwide. He is co-author of the E-Commerce Litigation chapter in Commercial Litigation in New York State Courts (5th ed.), and serves on the Board of Editors of The New York Dispute Resolution Lawyer. Steve received his J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a member of the Georgetown Law Journal, and his B.S. degree in Economics, with honors, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
