As a kid, I used to go to garage sales in pursuit of electronics and intentionally buy the broken ones. It may sound unconventional, but I enjoyed analyzing them to see how they worked, taking them apart, and then putting them back together to make them work.As an adult, I still hold this passion of trying to improve inefficiencies and help both things and people work as successfully as possible. I now do this in my capacity as CTO of PC Richard & Son, where I first started more than 34 years ago as a Night Data-Entry Manager. From that first position to where I am today, I feel fortunate that I've had the opportunity to learn from incredibly talented and dedicated people. I also now have the chance to lead some of those people, and our team is collectively responsible for all phases of technology development, acquisition, deployment, and support throughout the company. When I'm not in the office, you can usually find me speaking about the evolution of retail at domestic and global conferences and events, along with subjects ranging from leadership and personal success to a wide variety of technical topics. I believe in the importance of applying technology to create business value, along with a world-class experience for PC Richard's customers. One of the most rewarding things for me is being able to teach and help others in the community reach their full potential.I'm an avid IBM i enthusiast. I believe it's the best computing platform for business for many reason, which is why I do everything I can to promote the platform and the community surrounding it. As my wife often says, I need to learn how to say no, but I just don't have that in me when I believe in something. It's for this reason that I volunteer with many User Groups within the community including COMMON, LUG, and LISUG, along with teaching and mentoring to build the next generation of IBM i enthusiasts.Beyond work, I enjoy traveling, and am an avid Disney and Star Trek fan - mention any of these topics and you'll be sure to have my undivided attention!

Lisug Board Member, Emcee, Speaker CommitteeLong Island Systems User Group 2015 - PresentI've been an active member of my local user group, Long Island Systems User Group (LISUG), since 1986. In 2015 I joined the board of directors as well as the speaker committee, and was honored to be asked to assume responsibility as the group's emcee for each of our meetings. These roles have provided me with many opportunities to promote education on the IBM i platform through efforts to increase LISUG membership and meeting attendance. My role leading the speaker committee allows me to plan our curriculum, ensuring we meet the educational needs of local IBM i professionals to help them succeed in their careers on this platform. As emcee, I have a one hour time slot at each monthly meeting to present to our members, and I use that time to not only share the latest IBM i and other technology and cyber-security related news, but also to help facilitate networking and education.

Common Strategic Education Team & Subject Matter ExpertCommon 2017 - PresentCOMMON is the world's largest professional association of IBM technology users. I've been involved with COMMON for over 30 years, and in 2017 was asked to join the COMMON SET (Strategic Education Team) and to become a SME (Subject Matter Expert) as well. Being a member of the Strategic Education Team at COMMON has allowed me to offer contributions that I believe have benefited our attendees at each of our conferences by ensuring our offerings were optimized to fulfill their IBM i educational needs and to enhance their careers. I spearheaded the concept of "Interactive Workshops" and delivered one of the first ones, showing that we could adapt to a changing world of shorter attention spans. As a new Subject Matter Expert, I was offered the choice of several courses of study in which I spoke. I chose the Business Development track as I felt it was an area of education that technology professionals frequently overlooked. I've taught many IBM i professionals about leadership, teamwork, personal success, and time management, but the most valuable area has undoubtedly been in interpersonal communications.
