As a paid summer intern, I have worked as direct supervisor of several employees doing ALDOT contracted erosion control work. I worked in the positions of project manager, superintendent, estimator, foreman, class A cdl driver, equipment operator, and laborer. I Also completed quantity take offs, estimates, and bids. Working directly under the senior project manager, and the president, with contractors, subcontractors, and employees, I did everything I could possibly do to get the job done. I have gained valuable experience as a construction manager.

Remodel, repair, and maintain 42 unit multi-family housing complex under complete renovation conditions with partial occupancy. Schedule work and employees, self performing much of the work.

As the work study of the Director of Construction and Building Sciences department, I worked heavily with Microsoft office, assisted with requisitions, check request, and office maintenance. I also helped to maintain over 40 computers, a wireless network, printers, plotter, and laser engraver. I maintained inventory controls on all of the physical assets of the department, including equipment, tools, educational materials, and the computer equipment listed above. I tutored students as needed, and helped to make sure their needs were met to the best of my ability.

This was a paid internship position. Responsibilities included becoming proficient with CAD (Microstation), proofreading and correcting plans, Quantity take offs, Excel spreadsheets, and pay item numbers for the Pre-Construction Design department. I have had several jobs come across my desk. None of them personally recommended to me by college administration, except for this internship position through the Alabama Youth Development Program. I enjoyed the internship, and I really liked everyone I worked with, I learned a lot from them, I hope to work with them in the future. Tameka Hughs was a great leader, and teacher. There was never a time that I didn’t feel respected, or a time I felt I was treated unfairly. I hope to one day lead as well as she does. She taught us everything she possibly could in six months that goes into planning a transportation project. The experience I have in the Construction Management program at Jeff State came to life as I was able to get the chance to see managers of the largest projects in the state work. The experience I have in the Architectural/Civil Design program quickly went to work learning Microstation and designing future plans. When I started I couldn’t open Microstation, by the time I left, I was able to make sheets to be used in plans. I became very familiar with plan sets, and getting them right became something I could not overstate the importance of. People’s lives depend on the roads they roll on being designed well. I really enjoyed being part of something big, and see my time with Aldot as a public service.

I have remolded homes, installed residential flooring (including estimating, ordering materials, and transporting materials to job site), hired and paid subcontract labor as needed, installed plumbing, electrical, sheetrock, framing, roofing, window and door installation, equipment repair, landscaping, maintenance, and some HVAC. Honest, hard working, tough, and dependable.

Independent subcontracting. Install tile, pavers, and stone in commercial and large residential worksites. Liaison between owner and labor crew.

I began as a Sales Specialist. I was directly responsible for inside sales of Home Decor and Flooring. I received commissions and bonuses. I cross-trained in other departments, and made sales in those. I met or exceeded my departmental sales goals, and on a few occasions exceeded individual sales quotas of nearby departments. I used forklifts, and other equipment to maintain inventory. When I advanced to Department Manager, I was directly responsible for 20+ employees. I managed their schedules, duties, and training. I managed the Flooring, Home Decor, Paint, and Electrical departments. I managed inventory, receiving, department appearance and 100% customer satisfaction.

Layout, Install, sand, stain, finish, paint, and did artwork on Commercial floor systems. Including: hardwood, rolled goods, epoxies, rubber tiles, and any other types of athletic surfaces.

Class A CDL and hazmat truck driving. I was trained on lulls, Humvees, tractor-trailers, fuelers, 5-tons, and palletized load (and container) trucks. Trained in vehicle maintenance, operations, and recovery. When I was assigned to my permanent duty station, I transported ammunition for a forward deployed artillery unit. I drove a specialized 5-axle vehicle, called a PLS (palletized load system). It could drop its payload on a location within 20 seconds. It was equipped with outriggers, materials handling crane, winch, 10-wheel drive, 6-axle steering, and had a payload/towing capacity of36 tons, with a gross vehicle combined weight of 69 tons. l safely transported class 1, 2, and 3 Hazardous materials (artillery shells, missiles, powders, small arms ammunition, diesel fuel, etc.) through every Imaginable terrain and environment. I also was an expert marksman with every US weapon, machine gun, and grenade.
