Joined a grass-roots, private start-up company:worked the Liard Basin evaluating shale gas potential, an area that saw Apache Canada drill one of the most prolific shale gas wells in North America;company unfortunately lost its funding from US energy equity firm due to market conditions in 2009.

Recruited to be a Co-Founder and Officer of the Company:participated in the raising of $31 million of private equity; helped Vital progress from being a 50 barrel/day company to an ultimate high of 750 boe/d; built a land base within west-central Saskatchewan of over 120 sections (100%-owned);discoveries were made at South Unity (gas) and at Rutland (estimated 50 million bbls of heavy oil), both in Cretaceous clastics;(Vital was merged into Crocotta Energy in November 2008).

Exploration in the Zama-Shekilie area of northwest Alberta:resulted in 69 gas and oil wells (plus five dry holes) producing from the Devonian Slave Point, Sulphur Point and Keg River; Team increased area production from 65 mmcf/d to 112 mmcf/d, the maximum capacity of the facilities and oil production increasing by approximately 50% to 7500 bopd;Midale SK (Williston Basin) and Swan Hills AB (Devonian) business areas; Drilled over 85 multi-legged horizontal wells into the two properties.Production at Midale was increased to 25 year high; Provided technical input for company and properties acquisition within Alberta and Saskatchewan where carbonates were the focus; Technical mentorship of junior staff member;Worked the Devonian of the Deep Basin and drilled two exploratory wells resulting in a discovery with gas production of over 6mmcf/d (34 mmcf/d AOF) and one D+A; Responsible for Nisku and Leduc exploration in Central Alberta.

Responsible for creating value in four 100 % owned oilfields in the Aquitaine Basin of southwest France following Vermilion’s purchase of these assets from Esso REP.Development team increased production on the largest field from 393m3/d (2476 bopd) to 645 m3/d (4064 bopd), a 65% increase, while on the second largest, production was increased by 175% to 68 m3/d. Five well program included: a discovery well with an initial restricted flowing rate of 150m3/d of oil. The well was capable of being produced at a rate of 450m3/d of oil, but was limited by the test equipment;two horizontal wells that proved-up separate independent theories and, produced clean oil from a 45 year-old field with a 90+% average watercut;two follow-up horizontal wells on production.

Drilled among the very first horizontal wells in Western Canada as well as the first re-entry horizontal wells and underbalanced horizontal wells to be drilled in southeast Saskatchewan;Oversaw development of the Midale, Weyburn and Benson Units with eighteen horizontal wells and twelve vertical;Created the geologic model for the Midale Unit that formed the basis for the future CO2 commercial tertiary flood;Created geologic models that positioned horizontal wells relative to geologic facies to maximize recovery. These models were published and presented at several international forums;Worked on the Lodgepole mudmound play in North Dakota;Additional work focused on the Slave Point and Swan Hills Fms. at House Mountain and the Leduc Fm. at Innisfail.
