About Steven De Clercq

Steven de Clercq was trained as a geologist at the University of Amsterdam. He was director of Utrecht University Museum (1982-1998). Moving that museum to the Old Botanical Gardens and the Old Observatory in the heart of Medieval Utrecht, triggered Utrecht Museum Quarter. From 1998 until his retirement in 2006 he supported the five 'old' Dutch universities (Amsterdam, Delft, Groningen, Leiden & Utrecht) in their collaborative efforts to improve the quality and use of their collections. He was co-founder and vice-chair and of UMAC and was actively involved in ‘Universeum’, the initiative by the University of Halle-Wittenburg (Saale, Germany) to set up a European Network for the Academic Heritage. He is member and treasurer of the Vechtplassencommissie, an independent specialist working-group for the natural and cultural heritage of the Vecht-area (Netherlands). As such he is currently working on the concept of the “museum (without walls) of the landscape” and the development of "Cultural Landscape Explorer "- a visual portal for cultural landscapes (http://www.vensteropdevecht.nl/).He is co-founder of Vechtsnoer, the collaborative of cultural heritage institutions in the Vechtstreek aiming at presenting an integrated picture of the natural and cultural biography of the area, as a 'museum without walls'.Specialties: gerenalist

    Member
    Vechtsnoer Sep 2010 - Present
