DirectorSeek Conference Sep 2000 - PresentSeek is a design conference targeted to young professionals sponsored by the Visual Communication Program at Northern Illinois University. Seek was initiated in 2000 and has been running annually since then. One of the unique aspects of Seek is that I allow students to take a lead in the development and organization of the conference with me serving as a mentor and guide for the student or students chosen to coordinate the conference. This experience helps those students learn to organize, develop leadership skills, and run a large conference in all it's aspects from concept and speaker selection, to developing the conference identity, to the execution of all the details of the conference. Past speakers have been some of the most influential designers, including Stefan Sagmeister, Massimo Vignelli, Rick Valicenti, Debbie Millman, Paula Scher, Chip Kidd, Kyle Cooper, Jakob Trollback, Eddie Opara, Aaron Draplin, Joshua Davis, Robbin Raye, Chuck Anderson, Andrew Blauvelt, Justin Ahrens, among many others. The conference typically hosts about 200 young professionals, and is held in the late fall.

DirectorSignature Awards Mar 2014 - PresentDekalb IllinoisSignature Awards is a new initiative started in 2014 to recognize the best student design talent in the US. This is a design competition sponsored by the AIGA Student Group at Northern Illinois University. The annual competition happens in the spring, and is open to currently enrolled design students in the United States. Three judges are selected to evaluate the work. Only one judge needs to accept the work for it to be in the award site. Multiple judges can accept individual works. Work that is accepted by all three judges receives a certificate.
