Work independently on a broad assortment of cases at a general practice firm operating in NY and NJ. Practice areas include civil litigation, real estate, divorce/separation, custody/visitation and child support, landlord-tenant, trusts & estates, medical malpractice, foreclosures and loan modifications, debt collection, and contracts. Interface daily with clients and assist in bringing new business to the firm.

Responsible for managing personal injury and medical malpractice cases from inception to completion, making court appearances in Manhattan, Bronx, Westchester (Supreme and Federal), Hempstead, and Brooklyn Supreme Courts, writing and responding to all motions and pleadings including summary judgments, complaints, bill of particulars, orders to show cause, oppositions to orders to show cause, notice of claim, affirmations in support and opposition, open commissions, etc., as well as reviewing medical records for medical malpractice cases and locating, meeting with, and dealing with medical experts throughout all phases of litigation. Also conducted client meetings and intakes, evaluated incoming clients, attended depositions, conferences, and 50h hearings. Responsible for dealing with Medicare and attending depositions on complex asbestos litigation, making court appearances for no-fault cases, and assisting in bringing new business to the firm.

Drafted legal documents including Limited Liability Company operating agreements, lease and sublease agreements for Subway franchises, guaranty of lease letters, possession letters, demand letters to attorneys, software license agreements, agreements for the purchase and sale of assets, and title report requests. Responsible for performing legal research, analyzing case law, and drafting memoranda of law. Interviewed witnesses, police officers, and drafted affidavits for a personal injury suit against the MTA bus company when an MTA bus struck a pedestrian.

Appeared as the sole defense counsel in detention hearings twice per week in front of a Judge in the Essex County Family Court. Responsibilities included interviewing indigent juveniles and their parents, investigating alleged offenses and allegations of juvenile delinquencies, and negotiating with prosecutors regarding recommendations to the Judge. Interfaced with police officers and arranged residential shelters and medical treatment for indigent juveniles.

Created new hospital-wide “Do Not Resuscitate” consent forms. Attended administrative meetings related to performance improvement projects and risk management, and root cause analysis meetings. Conducted research for future hospital policy, specifically discharge planning for homeless patients.

Performed intake and interviews with domestic abuse victims in Bronx Family Court and prepared, filed, and obtained Temporary Orders of Protection from their allegedly abusive spouses.
