Energetic and Authentic Thought Leader with a solid reputation of success in Nonprofit ManagementSteven Echard, CAE, is currently on his third tour of duty with the the ACR, this time as its Chief Executive ( Executive Vice President (EVP), where he has served for the past 4 years. Within the first few years, he launched several new initiatives, including Global Outreach, Governance Organizational Review, and Diversity & Inclusion. The ACR has also been very active in responding to COVID-19 by developing clinical guidelines and recommendations for rheumatologists and patients.Before his appointment, he served as the CEO of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) from 2014 to 2019. He was able to help AASLD refine its strategic plan and increase its program offerings. During his tenure, AASLD also launched the AASLD Foundation. Total net assets grew from $52 million (2013) to more than $60 million by the end 2017. The program budget for AASLD and Foundation also increased from $13.7 million (2013) to over $22 million for FY 2018-19. Before AASLD, he served as Executive Director for The Rheumatology Research Foundation for nine years. While at the Foundation, Steven grew the organization from a budget of $3.5 million (4 full-time staff) to an impressive $17 million budget (21 FTEs) with over $70 million in assets. As a staff member of Association Headquarters (Mount Laurel, NJ), Steve served as an Executive Director for three other medical societies:•American Society of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (1200 members)•Society for Biomaterials (1500 members)•Osteoarthritis Research Society International (800 members)Before his AMC experience, Steve worked for the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) for more than ten years. He served as Director of Research & Training, Director of Government Affairs, and finally, Director of Administration & Governance, where he was responsible for the preparation of the ACR Strategic Plan, Governance Review, and Leadership Development Programs. He also had direct responsibility for the Human Resources, Staff Development, and Benefits Administration for approximately 50 staff.
