Steven Gustafson is a technology executive and scientist with deep expertise in artificial intelligence, data science, industrial applications and leadership. He excels at architecting and building innovative solutions, and is passionate about the intersection of blockchain and AI in industry, and helping organizations optimize their decisions using data, analytics and AI. He has 10+ awarded patents, over 50 peer reviewed articles, and 4 edited volumes.Dr. Gustafson was the CTO at Noonum, a FinTech startup that delivers insights on companies and markets using advances in NLP and AI. He was formerly the Chief Scientist at a software platform startup, developing their AI strategy, building data science and research teams, and deploying several AI services in the product, including AutoML (with top-AI publications) and NLP (granted patent). Dr. Gustafson also led the Knowledge Discovery Lab at the GE Global Research Center: large-scale data, semantic technology and machine learning. He received his PhD in computer science from the University of Nottingham, UK, where he was a research fellow in the Automated Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning Research Group. He received his BS and MS in computer science from Kansas State University, where he was a research assistant in the Knowledge Discovery in Databases Laboratory. He has served on many program committees (GECCO, PPSN, EuroGP, CEC, etc), a reviewer for many journals, and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Genetic Programming and Evolvable Machines, the Journal of Applied Soft Computing, and the Neural Computing and Applications journal. Dr. Gustafson is also a founder and Technical Editor-in-Chief of the journal Memetic Computing. In 2006, he received the IEEE Intelligent System's “AI’s 10 to Watch” award. He has chaired several conferences (European Conference on Genetic Programming and Real-World Applications at Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference) and workshops (Graduate Student Workshop, Symbolic Regression and Modeling Workshop at the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference).
