  • Prudential Assurance
    Managing Director Corporate Solutions
    Prudential Assurance Jul 2007 - Jan 2010
Reporting to the UK CEO, responsible for Corporate business unit generating £437m APE of revenue in 2008 (45% of total UK revenue of £947m APE).Corporate Solutions comprises 3 main revenue streams. * DB Solutions provides buy-out and de-risking solutions to Defined Benefit Pension Schemes an example being the buy-in of the Cable & Wireless scheme for over £1Bn in 2008 – the UK’s first £1Bn+ buyout. * Insurer Solutions takes on back-book liabilities for other insurers, an example being the deal Prudential secured with Equitable life in December 2007 for £1.7Bn assets and 62,000 policyholders.* Corporate Pensions provides Defined Contribution pension schemes to over 5000 corporate clients including 60% of local authority AVC schemes and blue chip companies such as Rolls Royce, Royal and Sun Alliance and Kingfisher.Hired initially to take on the DB/IS business units and determine if they remained viable areas for Prudential participation, DB in particular having been unable to secure any deals against new competition for nearly 2 years. Conducted a quick evaluation of team, its approach and how it interacted with the external market and with internal colleagues. Initiated a change program including a more focused sales approach, smaller team with much tighter qualification of prospects. In 2008 the DB solutions team secured profitable deals worth over £1.4Bn. In early 2008, Corporate Pensions was added to my portfolio. Unlike DB and IS which are ‘transaction businesses’ Corporate Pensions is a flow business with 85%+ of revenue coming from ‘farming’ existing schemes. Refocused a large sales team into distinct farming (existing schemes) and hunting (new scheme) teams improving productivity, client service and new scheme win performance despite reduction in headcount and costs.
