Hogeschoolhoofddocent Ide / Associate Professor Ide
CurrentHogeschoolhoofddocent (Associate Professor) at the Institute of Design & EngineeringIn my role as Associate Professor I focus on:- Connecting education, research and the professional field, particularly towards the IDE-theme data-driven innovation ("datagedreven innovatie")- Bachelor Technische Bedrijfskunde (Industrial Engineering & Management)- Master Next Level Engineering
Researcher At Lectorate Organisations In Digital Transition
CurrentI am active as researcher in the Sustainable and Social Local Energy Systems project at the research group (lectoraat) Organisations in Digital Transitions.I particularly focus on researching the value of incorporating social perspectives in often more technically oriented Digital Twins to improve the design and operation of systems.
Lecturer Master Next Level Engineering
Lecturer at the Institute for Design and Engineering (IDE) at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. The Master Next Level Engineering is my educational home-base, where I teach Systems Engineering, Interdisciplinary Projects and conduct Thesis supervisionI also am active in the Minor Smart & Sustainable Cities as supervisor and in our bachelor programsI have been member of the Toetscommissie ("Testing Committee") and was involved in the curriculum redesign of the Master Next Level Engineering
Systems Architect
At 2getthere/ZF I have been active in a Systems Architect/Systems Engineering role. Activities included (safety) design and analysis of autonomous behaviour of shuttle busses operating in mixed traffic situations. My focus was both on the autonomous transport systems as well as the shuttle and it's autonomous driving software. I had a coaching role within the Systems Engineering team and contributed in a lead role to ZF division-wide architecture discussions. One of the major deliveries was a set of requirements for autonomous driving capabilities in a specific ODD (operational design domain) including mixed traffic. I have also supported the Verification and Validation team with test case and test strategy development
Works Council Member
Secretary in the 2getthere Works Council (Ondernemingsraad)
Senior Systems Engineer
Postdoc Researcher Systems Engineering & Electric Mobility
I was employed as PostDoc researcher at the University of Twente. My main research focus was to support the design of complex systems with useful models and simulations (and tools to create these). However, in the projects I also employ my Systems Engineering expertise to support further system and tool development in general. I also supervise students in various courses and graduation projects (BSc / MSc) and developed, coordinated and teached a course on Systems Thinking. My research was situated in the Systems Engineering & Multidisciplinary Design group within the Department of Design Production & Management at the Faculty of Engineering Technology.I was mainly active in two projects in the Electric Mobility Europe programme. One project - eMaaS: electric mobility as a service - focuses on delivering an integrated mobility solution using electric transports to end-users using fleets of electric vehicles combined with public transport solutions. The other - proEME - focuses on accelerating acceptance of electric mobility in general.
Systems Engineer
Within Oceaneering AGV Systems, I was employed as System Engineer for various projects delivering Automated Guided Vehicle Solutions for material transport in (indoor) warehouse and factory applications. These projects did not only concern the delivery of vehicles, but also system level interfacing with customer control systems, as well as our in-house traffic control software. My main activities ranged from vehicle design and configuration specifications, interface specifications, lay-out planning and design, infrastructure specifications and design, writing specifications for suppliers and working with customers to meet the optimal solution for all parties involved.I have developed and implemented several new templates and procedures, for example to structure specifications towards suppliers delivering parts of the system (a template for a program of requirements).
Phd Candidate
PhD Candidate in the Allegio project. My research focused on systems architecting and systems engineering and especially on multidisciplinary communication in the early, conceptual stages of design. The research resulted in a thesis titled:COMBOS: Communicating Behavior Of SystemsIncorporating simulations in conceptual systems designDuring the design of complex systems, more and more of the systems functionality becomes embedded in the software domain. Therefore, behavior becomes less obvious from the systems structure and models and simulations are needed to understand this behavior. However, communicating these models is not supported well, especially to a wide group of stakeholders during the conceptual design stages. The thesis proposes an approach to support communication of behavioral analyses. This results in the creation of interactive system overviews that show the simulated systems behavior from different perspectives. The research was partly carried out at the interventional x-ray division of Philips Healthcare in Best, where I have spent several days a week embedded as a researcher. Various case studies focusing on improving the overall system design were executed.Allegio Project: http://redesign.esi.nl/research/applied-research/current-projects/allegio/
Junior Project Manager
New project developments; writing proposals, (technical) market research & analysis, conceptual design and visualization of systems and information.Managed several small projects that are collaborations between EDC and another partner, regarding various technological developments in medical technology, visualization technology and consumer products.
Msc Graduation Assignment
In August 2009, I finished my MSc Graduation Assignment at the ICT research institute Novay (previously Telematica Insitituut). I researched new ways of working for system architects in the Future Workspace. I conducted interviews in industry to elicit user needs and developed concepts for supportive tools.Successfully graduated with a 9.
Bsc Graduation Assignment
The assignment was carried out at the Rapid Manufacturing department of TNO and involved the creation of a parametric model in SolidWorks to support Rapid Manufacturing. The model was an electronics casing, which could then be produced with rapid prototyping using SLS technology. This way, electronic designers can customize a casing themselves. This process excludes a designer in developing customized casings and leaves the user in charge.
