Steven Koch is a lawyer for the Democrats in the New York State Senate.Steven is counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee, which enjoys broad legislative jurisdiction and is responsible for evaluating judicial nominees. He also advises the Codes Committee on civil rights matters. In 2022, Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins appointed Steven as ethics counsel for the Democratic Conference. In that role, he advises senators and legislative employees on ethics and lobbying issues. The following year, Steven joined the Majority Floor Team, which assists the Conference during Senate proceedings.Before joining the Senate, Steven led the housing practice at The Bronx Defenders, where he supervised a team of lawyers and paralegals that represented indigent tenants in eviction cases and other housing matters. He was also an associate in the white-collar defense practice at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, LLP.Steven clerked for U.S. Magistrate Judge Howard R. Lloyd and Senior U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken, both of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Steven received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. from Cornell Law School.
