About Steven Floyd
Steven is the Chief Engineer of additive manufacturing (AM) technology development at Northrop Grumman Space Systems. Steven has 15 years of space systems engineering experience including support to the James Webb Space Telescope, and guiding development of precision mechanisms, propulsion subsystems, communications subsystems and composite structures products. Steven currently leads a multidisciplinary team developing, qualifying, and applying additive manufacturing technologies across a wide breadth of NG Space systems products. In more than 10 years of research and development with additive manufacturing, Steven has led advancements in polymers, composites, ceramics and metals technologies at both small and large-scale AM domains. Steven’s efforts led to Northrop Grumman’s first titanium metallic AM part to fly on a spacecraft. Steven was also a mechanical engineering lead in the creation of robotic thermoplastic composites additive manufacturing capabilities. Steven has led advancement of design and analysis tools for AM, exploration of in-situ monitoring techniques for additive quality control, development of novel elastomeric printing solutions, and qualification of multiple metallic alloys for fly-away applications. Furthermore, Steven has closely collaborated with many small businesses and universities to help advance their capabilities and the additive manufacturing industry to directly support needs for Aerospace applications and products.Steven also has extensive experience in performing structural dynamic analysis, classical structural analysis, research and development testing, dynamic loads analysis and finite element analysis. Specific areas of expertise include analyzing propulsion subsystems, mechanical ground support structures, integration layouts and flexible waveguides. Additional areas of analysis experience include analysis of gimbals, sensors, panels and other typical spacecraft structures. Further areas of experience include performing research and development testing of damping devices, mechanical property characterization, allowable testing and script generation for process improvement.Expert with Mathcad, Patran, Nastran, MATLAB scripting and Microsoft Office. Proficient with CATIA V5, NX, FEMAP, ANSYS, Pro-E and basic knowledge of Abaqus, AutoCAD, Solid Works and VA1.
Listed skills include Finite Element Analysis, Ansys, Structural Analysis, Aerospace, and 8 others.

Structural Engineer
-Apply classical hand analysis techniques to mechanical equipment and systems using free body diagrams, tracing load paths, and using FEM in multiple application. (Over 130 mechanical ground support equipment structures analyze).-Analyze propulsion subsystems, including line, valves, bracket, and thrusters to meet frequency and strength requirements.Leading research to drastically improve waveguide analysis processes and knowledge.-Generate quasi-static loads using modal analysis and launch environments to analyze flight structure such as: sensors, assemblies, and subsystems.
Dynamic Analyst Engineer
-Assisted with the design and testing of vibration isolation and mitigation research in a lab setting, including viscoelastic materials, particle dampers, magnetic dampers, and flexural spring designs. Created CAD models and drawings for these efforts using Pro – E.-Use Nastran and Patran extensively for building models and performing dynamics analysis on spacecraft structures. Learned the basics of patch method and VA1 for analysis for acoustic analysis and base shake random vibration analysis.Help improve and streamline analysis processes by writing MATLAB scripts.
Structural Analysis Intern
Used ANSYS and Unigraphics to build and analyze the structure of gear assemblies, fan housings, and combustion chambers installed in auxiliary power units.
