I have been working at Farnborough, in the field of structures and polymer composites since 1992. I hold a PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics from Imperial College, London (1996), an MSc in Computational Fluid Dynamics & Structural Mechanics from Imperial College, London (1988), and a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Plymouth (1987). I have published over 100 reports and papers related to composites and/or aircraft structures. My particular areas of interest are in the modelling of post-buckling, composite damage and failure in composite structures, as well as Virtual Testing methodologies. I also have expertise in trials and the modelling of Hydraulic Shock / Ram (HRAM) problems. I have worked on modelling residual stress issues and spring-in of composite components. I have experience of optimisation procedures related to structural FEA. I am an experienced mathematical modeller in both finite volume and finite element codes. I have been involved in the Group for Aeronautical Research and Technology in Europe (GARTEUR) collaborations on damage and certification of composite structures.At QinetiQ, I have been involved in many, varied programmes for both MoD and Industry.Specialties: Expertise in hydraulic shock, damage in composites, postbuckling, virtual testing and residual stress modelling via Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Competent user of the non-linear FE code ABAQUS. Proficient at FORTRAN and Visual Basic with experience in Python scripting.
