Transitioning out of prison and back into society may be one of the most complicated and difficult transitions imaginable. I am fortunate to be able to work with some with these phenomenal men who have experienced significant life change while incarcerated through the wildly successful PEP program. It's a character unlearning/rebuilding and an entrepreneurial crash course. 200+ new businesses have been created, and we are just getting started. Once they are out, many new tests begin in the massive reorientation to life outside bars. I teach classes ranging from "keeping it weird with your marketing" to "creating healthy boundaries" to "cultivating a healthy community." I worked on the Texas Tourism business. My role with TM was to foster good relationships with our state tourism partners, and create and sell Co-Op Marketing programs. Additionally, I performed traditional Account Executive duties including project management for print, interactive, and radio campaigns.

My role with Organic to Go (Seattle-based) was to launch our catering business and make it profitable. I developed relationships at Microsoft to earn a spot on their Preferred Vendor List and open cafes on their Redmond campus. This helped our company triple revenue in greater Seattle.

I was responsible for managing sales and relationships with Wal-Mart across Washington state. A large component of this position was dedicated to training, so that the staff could effectively influence a customers' decision to purchase Nextel.

This unique position was buns of fun. Only 12 Hotdoggers are chosen from a pool of 1500 candidates, and I was fortunate enough to be selected. Dubbed Sauerkraut Steven, I traveled with my coworker across the country for one full year, and spread the love at events. Along the way, we helped raise thousands of dollars for Big Brothers Big Sisters, used guerilla marketing tactics to get face-time on the TODAY show, and racked up thousands of memories and smiles on behalf of Oscar Mayer.
