Our team builds tooling for both Internal and External customers at Xero. We are currently working on enabling the next-generation Developer Platform for Xero which will enable App Partners even more flexibility in what they can accomplish with their integrations.

Our team is responsible for maintaining and evolving the Integration Management Platform that developers use to create and manage their integrations to the Xero Public API. My role is to ensure that the team has everything they need to do the best work of their lives. I support a number of engineers through coaching and mentoring discussions while facilitating team discussions and ceremonies. Together with other Development Team Leads, we monitor future growth plans for the team as a whole, manage ongoing risks and enhance our interviewing experience.

My role is to help my team continue building a world-class developer platform that empowers our developer partners to build amazing applications that connect to Xero. This allows them to build niche software that helps small and medium businesses to focus on getting their work done and not worrying about the accounting side of things.In this role, I have a number of engineers that I support and challenge to help them develop to the best of their ability.Together we own the API Gateway that allows developers to access the Xero API as well as the Xero Webhooks ecosystem.

I joined the BSure IT Solutions team full time on a short term basis before leaving for New Zealand. My role was to get an internal development team started. Together we worked on software used by the rest of the BSure Africa group to manage internal systems and to generate various reports.A large part of this role wasn't only getting the software up and running, but getting a growing company used to working with a software development team. Regularly that would require explaining how the development process worked before creating the software required. In my short time here I got to see just how much software can impact peoples everyday lives by automating jobs and freeing those people up to manage their time in other ways.Key lessons learnt:- Writing code is not always the optimal solution to a problem- Prioritising smaller features that automate everyday tasks for users can provide more comprehensive value- Building a high performing team takes more than good development practices and CI/CD pipelines- Retrofitting test practices and build pipelines is harder than baking it in from the start

Working with the team at Driven has literally been a dream come true. I've looked up to many of the team members at Driven for most of my career. Working with them I have learnt more about communication and team dynamics than I ever knew before.I have joined a team at South Africa's biggest bank. Working alongside developers and testers from the bank and other companies, we work on a reporting system that gives analysts important daily information to make crucial decisions.As a company, we have a strong focus on growing people within the development community through organizing community events, speaking at conferences and facilitating code retreats.Key lessons learnt:- Developers and Quality Engineers should work together- Pairing and Mob programming methods- Looking at software development as an engineering craft- Give back to the community: A rising tide lifts all boats- How to "weakly hold" strong opinions and to interrogate those opinions when challenged on them- Using the Spine Model to guide conversations

Chase software is one of the top Advertising Agency Management systems in the Southern Hemisphere and when I last checked, the top system in Africa. I joined the team as a junior developer and worked my way up to a Team Lead position over the years and learnt a lot from everyone on the team. I helped design sections of the database, implemented our first Continuous Integration pipeline and helped introduce our first attempt at unit testing our ExtJS code through Jasmine. Naturally I worked on many parts of the system throughout my time at Chase and this included everything from writing up specs to delivering the end product. Once I became a Team Lead, it was my responsibility to train up new developers when they joined the team and to help team members with whatever I could.We were also very active in the community, helping to sponsor events and many of the developers from Chase spoke at community events and conferences.
