Jones takes the role of executive director of DMARC.org as the group focuses on promoting the use of DMARC and related email authentication technologies to reduce fraudulent email at Internet-scale. The DMARC specification was originally published on January 30, 2012, and is now used to help protect over 60 percent of consumer mailboxes worldwide.

Member and contributor starting with the preceding organization in 2010; served as Secretary from September 2011.

Since early 2013 Jones has served as strategist aligned with the messaging and desktop productivity portfolio within the End User Computing group of the bank's central IT organization.Throughout his career at the bank, he has participated in various industry groups and standards efforts, spoken at a number of conferences, and contributed to several publications.From 2009 to early 2013 Jones was in charge of strategy and planning for collaboration tools within the bank, including social networking and messaging. He also contributed to strategies in related areas, served as subject matter expert to line-of-business initiatives, engaged business units to identify trends and requirements, and helped organize various working groups.In early 2008 Jones joined the bank's Web 2.0 Working Group and led the sub-committee on social networking, publishing a whitepaper on how the bank could leverage the technologies internally and externally. In the second half of the year he helped design and build the first internal social networking platform at the bank, YETI. This platform grew to over 20,000 users through word of mouth alone, and was built on the Joomla CMS using off-the-shelf components, custom PHP code, and featured connection graph visualizations.During 2006 and 2007, Jones managed a team of five messaging architects and engineers. His role focused on engagement with business partners, resource management and budget forecasting, vendor management, presentations and executive support.His first position with the bank was as a messaging architect for Internet email services including design, implementation, and security. Expertise required with SMTP, anti-spam and anti-virus products, digital loss prevention (DLP) and regulatory archiving, LDAP, TCP/IP networking, enterprise architecture and change management. Also responsible for providing regular presentations on the state of messaging systems, and supporting executives with initiatives and presentations.

Member of the professional services group. Hired for custom coding to integrate Sendmail products with customer systems using C, Perl, awk/sed/shell scripting, m4, MySQL, OpenLDAP, Exchange, Active Directory, Windows, Linux, Solaris, and FreeBSD. Wrote synchronization package to populate perimeter LDAP directory from corporate Active Directory, which was later productized. Worked on several log data analysis systems for Sendmail products, one of which was productized. Conducted benchmarking exercises with analysis and presentation for customers. Numerous and repeat engagements with Fortune 1000, Big Four accounting clients.

Making sophisticated technical analysis of US stocks available to the individual investor. Built out and operated production LAMP infrastructure from proof of concept stage, including 2 full S&P market data feeds being ingested by 2 top spec four-socket Xeon-based Linux MySQL servers, and a full cage at the NYC Equinix colo facility. Wrote static page generation system and overnight jobs populating the site using Perl and PHP. Conducted detailed staffing and resource requirements analysis and forecasting for Engineering and Operations departments and prepared report for CEO. Managed engineering team while chief engineer and CTO were simultaneously out on family leave for two months. This position was responsible for production operations, development support, and all corporate IT functions.

Redesigned and rebuilt the infrastructure of one of the premier data warehousing and ETL software companies to support projected growth from a staff of 50 to 200 in one year's time. Rationalize a hodge podge of developer hacks to random UNIX and Linux servers into a consistent and reliable development and support environment featuring HP HP/UX, IBM AIX, RedHat Linux, Sequent DYNIX, SGI IRIX, Siemens SINIX, Sun Solaris; IBM DB/2, Oracle RDBMS and Parallel Server, SAS. Built a proper internal network with managed switches, VLANs to isolate traffic, and uprated backbone. Oversaw junior staff in supporting typical IT functions, sales/field staff, facilities management.

Crash Computing was organized in the 1990s to support contract work for companies like CS First Boston, Bear Stearns, and JPMorgan. (Noteworthy work from that period is detailed below.) Since then it has provided a home for various projects related to email authentication, collaboration technologies and content management systems.

Designed and implemented upgrades to secure file transfer system from 1997 project. Included pools of workers at each stage for greater throughput and horizontal scaling across servers, and X.500 directory support to allow growth to tens of thousands of clients firms - previous version was already exceeding maximum licensed capacity. Programming in C and Perl, HTTP and FTP transfer methods, the Entrust PKI system and bundled X.500 directory server, Sybase RDBMS, and Sun Solaris. (Contract position)

Operational support for global DCE and Encina infrastructure on a "follow the sun" basis, including all production, test, and development environments. Led certification and deployment of Y2k compliant platform. (Contract position)

Designed and delivered a secure file transfer facility for exchanging portfolio data with clients over the Internet. Implemented cooperating processes across multiple servers in C and Perl, supporting HTTP and FTP, using the Entrust PKI system for encryption, and Sybase RDBMS. Included a web front-end for clients; a web-based administrative interface for operations, provisioning, and audit; operational training and support; and integration with client's enterprise job control system. Complete documentation and runbook provided. All software running on Sun Solaris and communicating with IBM mainframes on the back-end. (Contract position)

Proposed, designed and delivered a custom authentication system for the Netscape Commerce Server to support single sign-on across multiple web servers, in different business units, and supporting a complex client entitlements access control system using C, BerkeleyDB, TCP/IP sockets, and the NSAPI. This system was so robust it was still in production use three years later, scaled up an order of magnitude over original requirements. This work was the basis for a presentation at the SANS97 conference. (Contract position)

Part of the Internet Services Group that helped bring Wall Street to the Web in 1994-95. Researched and built IP network firewalls with packet filters and application proxies using various open source components on DEC Alpha hardware and the OSF/1 UNIX operating system. Engaged with business teams to gather requirements and partnered with them through deployment and on-going production support for internal network segregation functions as well as external connections. Inlcuded providing these services for the bank's primary Internet connections. (Contract position)

Basic system administration. At the time ICS was a leader in delivering X Windows and GUI interface builders to the software industry. A great place to work, but I was lured away by a chance to do something truly new and exciting.

A spinoff from Data General, HyperDesk took an R&D project from DG and pioneered the nascent distributed object and CORBA marketplace. Unfortunately this was a little too forward looking, and funding became an issue. In 1994 management decided to refocus on groupware products for the desktop, and essentially abandon Unix platforms. I declined the offer to become a Windows developer and moved on.

Part of the VAX Resource Center, in Information Services, part of Information Systems. We supported managers of DEC, Sun, and SGI computer systems and workstations within the Institute, and managed field service and software licensing programs provided by these vendors. My specific function was to answer their questions locally and avoid lab managers calling the vendors customer support centers.
