Marketing Executive & Business Administrator
Initially all things marketing for fast growing carpet and flooring company Holmes Carpets in Stockport. From traditional advertising to online to social media, and looking after the all important review sites. This role quickly grew to encompass all business administration, including bookkeeping using Quickbooks, ordering, hectic diary management, sales, estimates & customer relations. Management of the business on a day-to-day basis in the absence of the owner/MD.
Senior Fundraiser
Responsible for fundraising from the public - events, appeals, community, other initiatives, plus corporate and trusts.I joined After Adoption as Fundraising Manager covering for adoption leave. I had two fundraisers working under me with the small team responsible for all areas of fundraising; my specific responsibility being trusts and public events. I managed the team including budgets and reporting. Trust fundraising is more in-depth than at other charities, as I create project budgets using information from project leaders. Once the adoption leave was over, I was asked to stay on as Senior Fundraiser. For almost two years I have been the sole internal fundraiser, therefore with responsibility for all areas of the charity’s fundraising activities and administration. In addition to continuing with trusts and events, this has included working with individuals, corporates and community activities, and administering regular and payroll givers. I have attended a weekly local business networking group throughout the six years. I was tasked with researching, purchasing and implementing a new fundraising database (DonorStrategy) and replaced the e-newsletter system. I designed an extensive HR tracking system as in interim measure before they implemented their HR database, and manage the fundraising web pages. I have continued to provide financial and management reports.

Oversaw the delivery of events and initiatives, particularly event budgeting. Ensured the highest standards in fundraising; developed and managed the complaints procedure. Developed MAG’s public data protection policy.Organised appeal and marketing mailings, with the PR officer, designer, printer and mailing house. Managed MAG’s relationship with partner organisations (eg Good Gifts Catalogue, Bike Events).Involved in all aspects of organising UK events. This included the hugely successful first ever charity abseil at Battersea Power Station. Sourced new fundraising tools, eg online entry forms. Managed the fundraising web pages. Worked with the communications team to ensure the maximum exposure of the charity and events; worked with the web officer to improve e-marketing and the use of social networking. Managed the fundraising database (Raiser’s Edge). Applied for and secured a BBC Lifeline appeal (broadcast July 2010) and elicited the services of Victoria Wood as presenter; accompanied Miss Wood and the BBC to Laos for the filming.Improvement to procedures: Gift Aid procedures which led to a dramatic increase in tax claimed; monthly and quarterly financial reporting; event budgets and overall annual business plan; JustGiving imports into Raiser’s Edge; use of data from the charity’s SE Asia visitor centres; imports of standing orders to Raiser's Edge from bank statements. Liaised with other departments (eg Finance, Operations) to ensure effective exchange of information.
Fundraising & Development
In 2002, the Trustees of Yorkshire Cancer Research decided that the charity relied too heavily on its income from legacies and local committees and needed to broaden its income streams. This role was created for me, with the aim of taking the charity into new areas of fundraising. Organised runs: Income from the Great North Run increased from £7k to £190k. Runners in the Leeds and Sheffield half marathons increased from a handful to over 100. YCR was awarded and sold the maximum guaranteed places at the Great Manchester Run. New York Marathon grew from no participants to around two dozen annually. Provided a great deal of support to one runner who went on to raise £125k.Managed the fundraising database, developed the Data Protection policy and was DP officer for the charity. Purchased a new database (ProgressCRM) – researching the strongest system, on to which a new module was developed with the database company for mass participation events online entries. Co-ordinated the charity’s brand and display materials and designed all printed materials. Responsible for warm and cold mailings. Increased the number of regular givers fivefold in a year. Managed the charity’s website; the site grew from two dozen pages to over 400. Twice involved in the working group to contract new providers. Changed the grant application forms and published papers from paper-based to digital. Involved in a major press and radio campaign to mark the charity’s 80th anniversary. Annual legacy campaigns to solicitors and funeral directors across Yorkshire to promote the charity, and ran various ‘Free Will Schemes’ in different towns. Supported the Community Fundraising Manager working with fifty local committees. For one year I managed, in addition to my own role, the charity’s major in-house events in the absence of an events manager – a bike ride and an aerobathon at over 30 venues across Yorkshire – both of which saw an increase in profits.
