About Steve Rose

I am a speech and language therapist with experience of working in the NHS, voluntary sector and independent practice across different settings. I have skills in the engagement, assessment and management of children and young people with multiple disabilities, particularly sensory impairment, deafblindness, autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and rare diseases. I am passionate about developing evidence-based practices focusing on parent-child interaction, early intervention and building communicative competency. I am national advisor (deafblidnness) for Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and an active collaborator in national and international groups focusing on tactile langauge and cognition. Reasons for referral include rare epilepsies, monitoring specific epilepsy treatments, developmental baselines for surgical decisions, and children who have unusual profiles or are considered difficult to assess. • Sturge-Weber and Neurocutaneous Service – providing assessment and management of children with Sturge-Weber Syndrome and in the assessment of other rare neurocutaneous disorders. Reasons for referral include diagnosis, medical management, and educational / therapy advice. I worked with colleagues to develop a transition pathway for young people with SWS and an audit of SWaNS ASD pathway to help improve multi-disciplinary diagnosis.
