About Steve Wheat

After spending ten years as an itinerant English teaching bard through Eastern Europe, Japan, China, Oman and Saudi Arabia, I developed a love for the beautiful places of the world and a desire for their preservation. Since then I have spent ten years working from the humble origins of volunteering for NGOs and small startups in the Andes mountains of Peru doing 80 kW solar systems for farm villages without power, to the hinterlands of Bolivia selling solar ovens. I worked from the bottom of Sunrun's Sales Organizations, to leading a team of 17 for a national Sales Ops Platform before taking on the role of leading operations for all of Sunrun's early Grid Services efforts between 2017 and 2020. From there I grew a team of Program Management Professionals at Swell Energy where we solved some nigh unsolvable behind-the-meter grid services issues at the Grid Edge, delivering 10s of MWs of Grid Services simultaneously across fleets and islands, with stacked services, stacked revenue, and stackable hope for a future where all people can not only participate in energy, but lead the transition to a renewable future.

Synthesizing the profusion of homes and businesses, using every type of technology, into the thousand points of light necessary to create an entirely renewable energy system the works for every living generation and those to come after.Role consisted off hiring and training a team of Senior and Junior Program Managers, interacting with officers of the company on planning and strategy of Grid Services Operations.Under my supervision over 200 MW of Grid Services Contracts launched or continued to grow. Some of the highlights include the most sophisticated, integrated behind-the-meter residential battery and solar Grid Services Operations in Hawaii, a first of its kind DRMS integrated program for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, virtual power plants tailored to eroding California's dependence on storing large quantities of Natural Gas in Southern California Edison while integrating with California's wholesale marketplace (CAISO), and utilizing residential energy storage to replace traditional generation and system upgrades in New York City and the five boroughs. These programs and others represented millions of dollars in recurring revenue, substantial investment into next generation grid-edge software and technology for enrollments, dispatch, control, and settlement, and the fusion of dozens of internal and external systems into a one-of-a-kind, virtual power plant in a box mentality and business model.
