Steven Natali graduated with a B.S. degree in Geology from Yale University in 1976 and an M.S. degree in Geophysics from the University of Arizona in 1980. He worked in Amoco’s Denver office as an exploration geophysicist, first acquiring and processing 3D seismic surveys in the Utah-Wyoming Overthrust Belt, then generating prospects in other Rocky Mountain basins, Alaska’s North Slope, and the mid-Continent region. He also received a B.S degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado. In 1995, he accepted the position of Chief Geophysicist at Barrett Resources, where he acquired the 3D survey used to successfully delineate the 1.5 TCF Cave Gulch gas discovery in the Wind River Basin. In Peru, he acquired and interpreted the seismic program that lead to the drilling of three straight oil discoveries totaling over 300 million barrels of proved reserves. In 2009, that position was sold to Perenco Holdings for $750 million. Steve assumed the position of Vice President of Exploration, where he oversaw continued expansion of the Powder River Basin coal bed methane play and acreage purchases in the heart of the Raton Basin coal bed methane play and the Brundage Canyon field of the Uinta Basin. Barrett Resources was purchased by the Williams Companies in 2001. As Director of Exploration, Steve renegotiated a lease with Chevron and obtained three farm-out deals from Exxon Mobil that added 7,100 well locations and 5.5 TCF of 3P reserves to Williams’ portfolio. Upon promotion to Vice President of Exploration, he worked closely with the Acquisitions department in the purchase of $1.7 billion in properties in the Marcellus and Bakken Shale plays, thus adding 1.7 BCFE and 186 MMBOE of 3P reserves, respectively. Recently, Williams enjoyed a multi-TCF discovery in the Mancos shale of the San Juan Basin. During January of 2012, WPX Energy was spun off from the Williams Companies, with Steve assuming his current role of Senior Vice President of Exploration.
