I have completed one year of service with Minnesota Opportunity Corps (MOC) at Project for Pride in Living (PPL) and one year of service with MOC at the Avivo Institute for Career & Technical Education, both in Minneapolis. I have just received my Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) certificate and am now working as a Career Counselor at Avivo in Minneapolis, helping those on the Minnesota Family Investment Program prepare for and obtain employment. However, I am continuing to keep my eyes open for what might be out there in the nonprofit world as a Career/Employment Counselor. It is my goal to help those unemployed obtain meaningful employment. Everyone is different - everyone has something to contribute, I enjoy working with a diversity of people from different ethnolinguistic groupings and cultures, as well as seniors. I also have 25+ years of administrative experience in healthcare and/or nonprofit environments that contributes to my ability to manage technology inherent in data capture and helps me to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills developed in that environment. In 2014 I enrolled in the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) managed by East Side Neighborhood Services (ESNS) for Hennepin County. I was assigned responsibilities with program administration as a job counselor, helping enroll qualified seniors 55+ into the program, update job search skills and work with them to enhance employment skills so they could obtain employment based on experience and interests. At PPL (began September, 2017) I worked with individuals in groups and one-on-one settings to enhance job readiness, update job search skills, and apply for job postings in areas of interest. At Avivo (began September, 2018) I managed the computer and employment Resource Lab utilized by students in Avivo's Institute of Career & Technical Education - this included organizing the lab to become a more robust resource for students and those seeking employment, help with computer knowledge and skills (mostly Microsoft Suite), and help with job search and readiness (elevator speeches, resumes, practice interviews, etc.). I also developed PowerPoint presentations on job readiness topics and facilitated job clubs and assisted with classroom instruction.Avocational interests reflecting a number of volunteer activities include newsletter production; graphic design - newsletters, flyers, posters; social justice initiatives (through local church); and reading (mostly non-fiction: history, theology, social justice, theoretical physics).
Listed skills include Healthcare, Leadership, Data Entry, Community Outreach, and 5 others.
