About Steve Dingle

Rightway Data is an Information Systems company based in Lancashire that provides consulting, training and full system development services. We specialise in business reporting and automated data processing and are currently focused on providing SQL Server based solutions using SSRS and SSIS.---As the owner of Rightway Data, I bring with me nearly 30 years’ experience in working with data. I believe that well documented, data-driven, automated and reusable systems play a major role in the success of any technical solution. A small sampling my accomplishments: - Helped a US investment company reduce their monthly billing cycle from 4 days to 1, increasing invoice accuracy by 50% - Automated a .5 terabyte data migration project from an Oracle/Visual FoxPro system to a SQL Server system, improving data quality and increasing visibility- Built a reporting system for a research team in Ghana that increased their findings accuracy by 100%- Developed an SSIS framework for documenting, monitoring and developing SSIS packages for a large UK charity- Built an SSRS reporting suite for the Major Gifts division of a UK charity While I have worked with many large organisations over the years I am currently focusing on helping smaller organisations and one-person, start-up businesses with their data-related challenges. I want to share my knowledge and skills and help organisations improve the quality and understanding of what is often an underrated asset, their data.I am always up for a new challenge so send me an email or contact me on the Rightway Data website so we can have a chat.I do accept invitations but prefer ones with a personal note. ---On the personal side, I spent most of my working life in the US but in 2002 I migrated back to my birthplace, England. I wanted a change and being a UK citizen I couldn't pass up the opportunity live and work in the even more diverse community that is Europe.

Listed skills include Microsoft Sql Server, Database Design, Sql, Software Development, and 18 others.

Lead Developer

Current

Lancashire, United Kingdom

In March 2016 I formed Rightway Data to work with different organisations, facing new data challenges, as I love diversity almost as much as I like consistency. Besides being the owner, I am also the technical director, which means directing how things get done and lead developer, which means actually doing them. As lead developer, I provide the SSRS reporting, SSIS data processing and any other data related solutions for my clients. During the first year, I focused on developing the following in-house tools to reduce development time, subsequently lowering client costs.Business Reports Manager Report documentation is necessary. You need to know what reports are available, their format, the data they contain, how and when they are run and who is responsible for them. BRM provides a database and set of reports for holding and presenting this information. While BRM can be used for reports in any format such as SSRS and Excel, for SSRS reports BRM also provides a data-driven approach to formatting and organisation branding.Package Management FrameworkAs with reports, SSIS package documentation is necessary. You need to know what packages are running, how often they run, their purpose, their dependencies and who is responsible for them. PMF is an SSIS framework that provides a database for documenting and data driving SSIS packages. PMF includes package templates containing reusable, common functionality and a suite of SSRS reports for package and package run details. PMF also uses the Business Reports Manager for managing its reports.Additionally, I developed the Rightway Data website using Joomla 3.7 which was an enjoyable and educational experience, however, it is obvious I am not a web developer and in the future will be leaving that up to the experts.I am actively seeking new clients, so give me a shout to discuss how I can help with your SSRS/SSIS or other data related challenges.

Mar 2016 - Present

Sabbatical

Myself

Lancashire, United Kingdom

In July 2015 I left Marie Curie due to health reasons. With 'making lemonade' in mind and over 35 years of continuous work, I decided to take some time to recharge. While I was out of the workforce I was not idle during this time. - I updated my SQL Server, SSIS and SSRS skills to the latest versions.- I started training in Access/VBA to provide the front-end to my planned SQL Server tool set.- I learned the basics of CSS/HTML and how to use a CMS (content management system) like Joomla to create websites. I need to stress here this is for personal growth, I do not offer any services as a web developer. At the end of my sabbatical, I decided to get back into consulting and opened my Information Systems company, Rightway Data Limited.

Aug 2015 - Mar 2016

Senior Systems Analyst

London, United Kingdom

Marie Curie is a UK based charity with over 4,000 employees, that provides care and support for people living with terminal illness, and their families. In 2016 they cared for over 40,000 people across the UK. Initially hired as a Systems Analyst, by February 2013 I was promoted to Senior Systems Analyst which included more project, campaign specific and managerial responsibilities. My primary focus was working with CARE (IRIS/NFP Advanced), a CRM system for charities. Working with business analysts and stakeholders I developed and maintained SSRS reports for managing fundraising campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal, Great Blooming Tea Party and many others. Using SSRS I develop a reporting suite for the Major Gifts team, which manages the portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and trusts for gifts of over £10,000.Using SSIS I developed packages for importing fundraising campaign data and 3rd party data flows. To improve consistency, transparency and visibility I developed an in-house SSIS framework used by the team for package development and administration. I also provided SSIS training for all members of the database services team.Working within the CARE SQL Server database, I developed a data profiling method for identifying unique donation accounts that were subsequently used to track the click-through rate for online banner ads and mailings. In July 2015 I left Marie Curie due to health reasons.

May 2012 - Jul 2015

Data Analyst/Developer

Watford, United Kingdom

Corona Energy is an independent supplier of gas and electricity to British business, corporate and public sector customers. The company’s data was held in Visual FoxPro 9.0 and Oracle 10g databases and while my title was data analyst, I was also a developer and designed and developed the following systems:- A desktop application used to process EDI (Electronic Document Interface) files that produced ad-hoc user reports. - Enhanced the existing contract renewal system converting it from a manual system of Excel spreadsheets to a more automated self-monitoring system that increased accuracy thereby reducing riskIn 2009, Corona decided to change their system to a SQL Server and Microsoft Dynamics AX system specifically built for the energy and utilities industry, MECOMS. I was part of the team that played a major role in migrating the existing .5 terabytes of data from Visual FoxPro and Oracle into SQL Server. Some of my key achievements during that time were:- Mapping all the data into the new system while working closely with the MECOMS team- Writing code to perform various parts of the data migration- Building a Visual FoxPro application to automate, manage and report on the migration process- Developing an automated system to extract weather information from the National Grid and integrate the data into the new system In December 2011 I took voluntary redundancy with most of the in-house development team as the MECOMS team would be providing a majority of the support for the new system.
