Steven Perez-Badillo is a proud Latinx and first-generation student at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. At this prestigious University, he is a rising senior majoring in mechanical engineering. Steven is the President of Pi Tau Sigma (PTS) – an international honor society in the field of mechanical engineering. Additionally, he is the Internal Vice President of the Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHE) – a student run organization whose focus is to “Recruit, Retain, and Graduate minority students majoring in engineering, math, or science.” Steven has received multiple awards including the Margaret B. Beldon Endowed Scholarship, Cooke Robert A Endowed Fund, Caballero Maria & Louis fund and a full-tuition grant from Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS). Additionally, Steven is a recipient of the NACME scholarship – an award given by a network of leading corporations to recognize excellence of under-represented minorities in engineering and computer science. Steven also participated in the Rutgers Green Energy & Technology program (GET UP), which allowed him to work under the tutelage of Professor Mazzeo in the Rutgers Lab for machines, manufacturing, and mechatronics (MMM). Here, he worked on delivering a paper-based plasma sterilization iRobot. Most recently, Steven interned with Eaton at their Electrical Headquarters in Moon Township, PA. Here, he performed thermal and quality tests on Power Defense generation 2 (PD2) circuit breakers, remote operators and residual current devices. Currently, Steven is working at the Cummins Engine Plant (CEP) in Columbus, Indiana as a Systems Performance Engineer Intern. Here, he will work alongside the SPACE team on aftertreatment controls & emissions.
