As an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the W.M. Keck Center, I specialize in advancing additive manufacturing techniques for ceramic materials. Collaborating with the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), I optimize critical parameters—drying, post-processing, and pre-print conditions—to enhance alumina ceramic print quality and scalability, addressing industry-relevant challenges.I’ve designed and deployed test artifacts for assessing the Excalibur Custom Direct Ink Writing (DIW) system’s performance limits, utilizing the Keyence LMX for detailed dimensional analysis and refining print parameters. Through this work, we have contributed significantly to improving precision and consistency in alumina-based 3D printing.In a key project, I developed a custom ram extruder prototype using Fusion 360 and Bambu Lab A1, successfully simulating and validating extrusion forces required for alumina paste. This innovation addresses unique material handling needs within high-precision 3D printing applications.Leading the redesign of the Excalibur DIW system, I enhanced the system’s functionality by integrating a CMOS camera mount and implementing a controlled humidity system. This design includes a sensor-driven chassis with an automated humidifier, essential for maintaining optimal environmental conditions for ceramics.My work involves hands-on prototyping and iterative design in Fusion 360 and SolidWorks, combined with advanced 3D printing skills. These contributions have expanded the system’s capabilities and reliability, facilitating further research and application in high-quality ceramic additive manufacturing.
