The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is a global multi-billion Euro project to build a multi-purpose radio telescope that will play a major role in answering key questions in modern astrophysics and cosmology. The SKA is both a research funding recipient and manager of externally funded research and development in Radio Astronomy. My work involved intimate familiarity with SKA Office funding, the terms and conditions and the research and development the SKA Office oversaw - to support programme delivery. This involved managing aspects of the workpackages undertaken by academic and industrial partners using classical project management techniques. Maintaining successful and lasting close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders was also necessary. Stakeholders included programme directors, programme managers, scientists, system engineers and web developers - to support the whole project lifecycle from initiation, planning, execution through to closeout and final reporting. Functions within my work included: planning, financial controls, benefits monitoring, risks, issues and lessons learned management, governance and working group participation (SKA Equality and Diversity Working Group) and developing and writing policy and procedure documents. These roles assisted in the delivery of specific elements of the engineering programme, with a particular focus on stakeholder management and engagement with partners to deliver (between 2014 and 2019) the SKA Element and System-level Preliminary Design Reviews, the SKA Management Review, the SKA Architecture Review and the SKA Element and System-level Critical Design Reviews. I also contributed to the Project Execution Plan, the Construction Proposal and bridging work (between the Pre and Construction phases of the project and I was fully responsibility for the quality, timescales and delivery of my work.

Project & Liaison Manager responsible to perform an initial safety assessment of domestic violence or repeat burglary crime reports from GM Police, to make subsequent contact with victims; Conducting property surveys; Planning related works; Contracting and managing scheduled works; Monitoring associated equipment and funds; Reporting progress; Evaluating outcomes and lessons learned.+ Improving the security of any property in Salford where domestic violence or repeat burglary has taken place. (Target Hardening- door & lock changes or improvements, window replacements or repairs and the installation of alarms.)+ Initiating alley-gating and other crime-reduction schemes throughout Salford; Contracting and managing the repair of all alley-gates throughout the City of Salford; + Policy and Procedure development and writing.+ Reporting progress, evaluating outcomes and lessons learned; Conducting community consultation about a number of alley-gating schemes proposed for various areas in Salford ; Reporting key messages to Salford City Council’s Community Safety Unit budget holders and other partners.

Research & Performance Officer tasks included successfully coordinating and conducting strategic business and operational planning via assessment and analysis of large volumes of target data (from internal and external organisations e.g., data from Greater Manchester Police, data and comments from the probation service, the NHS (drugs and alcohol team), and the Youth Service) and Government policy priorities; and produce quarterly performance reports.+ Developing and facilitating planning workshops and management meetings between strategic partners (e.g., Greater Manchester (GM) Police) and senior management to define and fix priorities; budgets, roles, deliverables and resources for the 2011-14 Community Safety Strategy.+ Policy & Procedure developing, writing and reviewing.+ Managing and reporting community safety performance; Devising and updating style and editorial guidelines; Creating and presenting reports and briefings to various audiences including the Deputy Mayors of Salford, the Community Safety Partnership, City Safe Director, and Senior Management in Environment and Community Safety Themes. + Conducting stakeholder analysis for Project Gulf; Change management within a Home Office sponsored pilot scheme to tackle organised crime. Producing Project Gulf Review Reports and implementing approved actions with GM Police, the Environment & City Safe Director at Salford City Council, the National Crime Agency Director and Senior Managers of other Central Governmental Departments (e.g., Gambling Commission, Department of Works and Pensions & HMRC ). + Devising statistical analysis, case studies, benchmark and base-lining techniques including traffic light reports and managing performance information for Directorate Business Plans, Cabinet Work Plans and new local performance indicators on Covalent; Designing and delivering web-based surveys and their reports for various community safety consultations.
