VASS is a purpose built service for people requiring the use of ventilator. Gerard became a ventilator dependent quadriplegic after a fall from our deck at our home in Warrandyte. With a positive, can do attitude, Gerard saw himself as "re enabled" and with the support of myself, family and friends, he made the best of his situation and worked on numerous projects. His greatest, and now completed, Food Forest was built on the DFFH site managed by Yooralla. With a design by Andrew Laidlaw from the Royal Botanical Gardens, EGA garden architecture, and project management and fund raising by the Global Gardens of Peace, we created "Gerard's Garden". The Food Forest project now provides food for the VASS community and a beautiful wheelchair accessible place to be enjoyed by residents, staff, family and friends.
