Called to companion presidential and executive leaders in higher education, Steve holds a particular concern for the interiority and wellbeing of leaders exercising leadership. Steve is a professionally trained and certified executive coach through the Center for Executive Coaching, the Co-Active Training Institute, a Gallup Global Strengths Coach, a Certified Practitioner of The Leadership Circle, a member of the International Coaching Federation, Senior Fellow with the Institute of Coaching, and member of Spiritual Directors International.A seasoned higher education executive, Steve is President Emeritus of Iowa Wesleyan University, where he also served as University Professor of Leadership. He previously served as the 13th president of Midland University and has held Cabinet roles at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Pacific Lutheran University, and Gustavus Adolphus College. Steve served as a tenured professor of leadership studies and organizational behavior, and he co-founded the LECNA Fellows Program. Steve began his professional life as a U.S. Army officer and attorney serving overseas during Desert Storm and in Washington, DC in the Pentagon and Army Secretariat. He later served as the Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army and was awarded the United States Army Outstanding Civilian Service Medal. Steve is passionate about executive coaching and committed to mainstreaming this vital and relevant work to higher education in order to serve, support, and sustain our presidential and executive institutional leaders.“Executive coaching is sacred and intimate work.
