I started SVEN Studios in 2012. In the first three weeks, I learned Java, learned the Android frameworks, learned Google App Engine and built a realtime synchronous JSON based Client-Server architecture for WordHero and shipped version 1.0 of the puzzle game. WordHero went on to be featured on Google Play several times and receive millions of downloads.SVEN Studios now has several multi-player synchronous puzzle games for the Android platform. Everyone plays the same puzzle at the same time with realtime leaderboards at the end of a 3 minute game round. Games include WordHero, Anagram Hero, WordSearch Hero and Math Hero with more coming. SVEN Studios uses a hybrid solution of Google App Engine and Node.js on the backend.Approximately 80% of the client code is pure business logic for JSON based Leaderboards, Friends list, Help and Settings with extensive use of threading to offset load time slowing the GUI. The game the users play comprises the other 20% of the code base of each 'game' which is typically outsourced along with sound and graphics work.

As one of the Core Platform Architects, I introduced multiple software patterns on which the core of the Wayfair Android app is built. These include network data caching, repository pattern, data validation, network error characterization and handling, global error handling, Load/Content/Error pattern and network state monitoring with retry.Other duties included embedding within development groups on an as-needed basis, interviewing candidates, mentoring junior developers, creating presentations and training on new software patterns so they can be rolled out across development groups within Wayfair.

Relocated from South Africa to the USA. Solely responsible for significant portions of the Abaqus/CAE software product’s functionality. This included gathering and defining requirements from Customers, competitive reviews and Product Management, implementation and interfacing with QA and Documentation teams. Languages: Python and C++ Additionally, interfaced with Partner companies to integrate their software offerings with Simulia software offerings.

Extensive and diverse engineering Design and Analysis work including medical device development (stents and aortic grafts), fluid filled tanks, buried pipes, earthen and rock dams subject to filling and earthquake, reverse flow forming, injection molding and prototyping and various military applications to support Technical Sales and Customers. Languages: Python, handling large data sets (multi-GigaByte).Developed the Abaqus Plugin concept and initial design and provided it to HKS, Inc who then included it in their software’s Graphic Interface, Abaqus/CAE. Developed a Material Library for Abaqus/CAE which was later sold to HKS Inc.Extensive contact with the South African Abaqus user community. Organized and conducted South African Abaqus User Conferences.Single handedly designed, built, tested and used a Rebreather 30% lighter than any of the three commercially available units. Rebreather’s are fully self contained long duration underwater/space life support systems. Broad project responsibilities included sourcing OTS components from overseas, structural and gas flow design, electronics circuit board design and programming of electronic chips on the circuit board for monitoring oxygen within the system necessary for sustaining life.

Engineering Design and Analysis work using Abaqus and Sales & Support. Consulting work included biomedical device (hip), liquid filled tanks, vibration of naval structures and python testing scripts for HKS Inc. Implemented Evolutionary Structural and Genetic Algorithms to optimize material positioning and design variables for biomedical and structural problems using Abaqus as a solver. Presented two papers at Abaqus User Conference’s on these algorithms.

Technical investigations, design and spec writing to MIL-STD's relating to ongoing Naval Engineering needs. In addition, I was expected to liaise with and present investigation outcomes to senior Naval officers.In addition, attended highly specialized training course designed to familiarize people with all aspects of the Naval Design organization and all ancillary groups. This included time spent in workshops gaining experience with lathes, milling, light and heavy sheet metal work, welding, cutting, rigging, metallurgy and planned maintenance. Project planned the refit of a harbor tug while in the project planning office and gained experience in the sourcing and design offices.
