Cruse Bereavement Support is the leading national charity for bereaved people. We support people through one of the most painful times in life – with bereavement support, information and campaigning.Bereavement affects everyone and can have a devastating effect on emotional, physical and mental health. Cruse support helps people understand their feelings, develop coping strategies, and return to every-day life, while remembering and celebrating the lives of those who have died.At Cruse my key achievements were• Working with our amazing team of volunteers and staff to develop and implement our new strategy “Bereaved People First” – increasing our reach, broadening our range of services and strengthening our governance• Leading a significant transformation, uniting 75 semi-autonomous local branches into a cohesive regional structure to work as “One Cruse”• Building a high-performing fundraising team, resulting in an increase in income of over £3 million per year• Sponsored a successful brand refresh, launched a new website, and implemented a CRM system, increasing our reach profile and influence across the sector • Working with groups of volunteers and staff developed an EDI strategy and policy• Collaborating with Marie Curie and other charities to lead the UK Commission on Bereavement, lobbied the Department of Health and Social Care and a range of parliamentarians to gather support for the Commission’s recommendations.My most significant achievement was leading Cruse through the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic. I ensured that through this awful crisis, Cruse adapted, grew, and developed so bereaved people continued to receive the vital support they desperately needed.

Member of BLF Executive holding range of corporate responsibilities including:• Annual business planning and reporting, jointly responsible for an organisation of 80+ staff and turnover of £7 million• Responsible for human resources function including employee relations and organisational development. Successfully achieving 35th place in Times 100 best not for profit employers• Currently leading a governance review aiming to improve board and trustee performance • Recognised as a key opinion leader in respiratory health and sit on a range of NHS England and other advisory groups• Regular TV and radio appearances on topics including tobacco control and air qualityLeading a range of teams focused on improving the lives of people living with lung disease and disabled by lung disease• Accountable for budgets of £2 million and 46 members of staff• Responsible for business units in devolved nations including policy and communication functions• Leading teams across the UK engaging with the NHS to influence service development and improve respiratory services• Leading the development and implementation of strategies for patient voice and health care professional engagement• Sponsoring a range of UK wide service development projects including self-management, pulmonary fibrosis, physical activity including developing fundraising proposals • Manage a range of direct services providing support to over 30,000 people a year including helpline and support groups• Responsible for volunteer strategy and implementation - currently supporting around 800 services volunteers• Sponsored successful fundraising bids of up to £950k from Big Lottery, Sport England and pharmaceutical industry
