At NS we are using more and more data to improve our services. As Data Lead, I have a vital role in supporting the NS in the use of data and information products which are used throughout the entire organization. While doing so I have to make sure that we have the right (strategic) focus, that the data teams create the most value for the business, and hence for the people using the trains, and that the organization as a whole is able to take the next step in working in a more data driven fashion.

At the Nederlandse Spoorwegen I devote my time to making the organisation a data driven organisation. One of my areas of expertise is advanced analytics, but a data driven organisation is much more than an organisation with data (science) teams: the culture, implementation power, leadership and technology are just as important to improve on. Only when information products are fully implemented they can contribute to a punctual, reliable, safe, clean and affordable mode of transportation.

Contributing to Meesters in de Psychologie both in the strategic processes and in IT. When it comes to automation and developing more complex aspects of the website and underlying systems, I am both advisor and developer. This is something I do in my spare time.

The Advanced Analytics team within Asset.Insight. is focused on making data and insights of the data available within the world of construction. Sharing useful data with the construction companies within and outside of VolkerWessels is a basic service we provide. Additionally we develop a wide range of products upon this data, from simple data visualisations (with BI tools, GIS tools, etc.) to models based on state of the art machine learning techniques and complex algorithms. We help construction companies with their digitization challenges and provide a wide range of optimization possibilities regarding the development, construction and maintenance of their assets.

Asset.Insight. is a VolkerWessels company, focusing on increasing the availability and reliability of assets based on data. I am part of the data science team within Asset.Insight. and work on data science projects for rail, roads, waterworks, and any other type of infrastructure for which data can be gathered.

For the rail contractor VolkerRail I apply a wide range of data-analysis techniques in order to improve the quality and reliability of the rail network we maintain.

Continuing the research started during my PhD.

With fundings from both the EU for the AniBio Threat, and from Wageningen University a Decision Support System is to be developed for the early detection of Low Pathogenic Notifiable Avian Influenza in flocks of poultry. Next to the development of this system, for which both real time data analysis and Bayesian networks are used, fundamental and experimental research is performed in the field of Bayesian networks and real time data analysis.

The European Workshop on Probabilistic Graphical Models (PGM) is a biennial workshop that brings together researchers interested in all aspects of graphical models for probabilistic reasoning, decision making, and learning. PGM 2014 is the seventh edition of the workshop. We are currently aiming to promote the 'workshop' to an official conference level, at which it has been organised the last couple of times.

The biennial ECSQARU conferences constitute a major forum for advances in the theory and practice of reasoning under uncertainty. Contributions come from researchers interested in advancing the technology and from practitioners using uncertainty techniques in real-world applications. The scope of the ECSQARU conferences encompasses fundamental issues, representation, inference, learning, and decision making in qualitative and numeric uncertainty paradigms.

A study trip for 40 persons, for a total of three weeks was organized by a group of eight students of the study association A-Eskwadraat. In this group I was both the treasurer and the vice-president. As all financial planning concerned transactions with China, and nearly all parties in China expected to be paid in cash, the financial planning was not trivial. The study trip resulted in a great experience for all participants, and with a minor positive balance.

A national and annual student conference for Information and Computer Science students and other interested parties, focussing on a specific topic. In 2007 the topic was Ambient Intelligence and Ubiquitous Computing and the conference was held in the Orpheus theatre in Apeldoorn. With a team of six persons, all aspects of the conference were organised.
