Officer - Current Rank - Commodore Royal NavyRoyal Navy Jan 1983 - Jan 2021Mod AbbeywoodAttended BRNC Dartmouth in 1983 joining a flight entry in January and passing out in the summer term. Approximately ten years as a pure Naval Aviator qualified as an AEW Observer, Qualified Observer Instructor and Electronic Warfare Instructor. Including one flying tour as an Instructor teaching Radar and Navigation. In 1993 qualified as a Principle Warfare Officer winning the Wilkinsom Sword as best student in year. Various Warfare appointments at sea and as a sea trainer in the Royal Navy Sea training Command. Staff Course and an MA in Defence Studies at Kings College London followed before a two year Command of a Destroyer HMS Newcaste, Mobile Sea Training Commander at the Sea Training Command training both UK and Foreign naval units including overseas training in South Africa, Poland, Norway and Singapore. Executive Officer HMS Ark Royal followed as a further Command Tour. Head of Navy PR responsible for all Corporate Communications for the Royal Navy: Website, Advertising, Marketting, Television Programmes, Internal Communications and Branding. Promotion to Captain assigned to NATO duties in Norfolk Virginia; Leading the NATO C-IED Task Force, Integrating New Nations (Croatia & Albania) into the Alliance, Leading the production of reports for Secretary General's Connected Forces Initiative post a reorganisation assumed responsibility as Branch Head for Defence Planning to drive Military advice to the forming of Alliance Political Guidance and Military Capability developemnt to meet NATO's level of ambition. In 2014 returned to the UK as the Captain Surface Ships in the Portsmouth Flotilla responsible for generating the Aircraft Carriers, all the Royal Navy's Type 45 Destroyers and the Portsmouth based Type 23 Frigates. Promoted Commodore in early 2016 moved to a new position as Head Defence Maritime Regulator within the Defence Safety Agency. -
