Leading the staff (30+ career staff and 60+ student staff / interns) of the students’ union to deliver high-quality membership and commercial services to students across 6 sites. Key responsibilities include strategic development, risk management, supporting the work of the sabbatical officers, stakeholder management, and oversight of governance, Human Resources, finance, and compliance.Over my time as Chief Executive the following successes have been achieved:• Refurbished two venues and diversification of commercial income• Created micro-engagement systems that also generate income (Give It A Go programme)• Reached initial and re-forecasted reserves position• Steered the organisation through the pandemic with a re-structured team across all 6 sites (previously only over 3 sites)• Managed significant organisational risk successfully protecting the organisation and trustees• Introduced a new approach to officer induction and support with increased satisfaction of the officer journey• Created additional line management opportunities; with all career staff given the chance to line manage either another career staff member or several student staff as well as access to management qualifications• More than doubled the size of the career staff team and student staff team• Reviewed and updated the union’s governing document• Re-branded with enhanced brand recognition by students and stakeholders

Student Voice works on academic representation, democracy, campaigns, policy, and student experience research. Responsibilities include:• Line management and recruitment of the Student Voice team (12 members).• Budget management and project management through the annual planning cycle. • Leading the operational partnership with the university.• NUS Quality Students' Union audit • Democratic engagement (Elections, AGM, Student Senate, Accountability, and Referenda) and acting as Deputy Returning Officer• Providing guidance, training, briefings, and support to the sabbatical officer teamAdditional work outside of role:• September - December 2017 whilst the Head of Governance was away on sick leave role was extended to include supporting the Board of Trustees, Board of Directors, their sub-committees as well as the CEO's work.• August 2018 recruited the new Executive Support team (outside of directorate) for the CEO including the head of department.

A new fixed-term role created by the CEO of CUSU with the support of trustee board to provide more diversity, support, and scrutiny to the Strategic Management Team.Responsibilities include:• Contributing to weekly Strategic Management meetings and monthly Leadership meetings (expanded leadership team of sabbatical trustees and Strategic Managers)• Reviewing weekly sales figures and cash position to support decision making• Leading Strategic Planning days and organisation-wide Staff Development Days (development of new organisational strategy and team days)• Responding to Heads of Department reports and approving recruitment activity and business proposals• Risk management (through organisational risk register and actioning work to reduce risk)

Responsibilities include:• Development of the Course Representative System; training, issue tracking, volunteer management and development.• Managing the university relationship in terms of academic representation• Secretarial duties for ‘zones’, union council, and academic council• Event management of the Student-Led Teaching Awards from the campaign to the event, and finally the embedding of positive pedagogic practice• Assistant Deputy Returning Officer for the union’s all-student elections• Data collection as well as analysis for the union’s Education survey which supported the annual and quinquennial student written submission
