My thesis analyses evolutionary narratives (i.e. the influence of Charles Darwin and Herbert Spencer) in the poetry and prose of late Victorian polymath Constance Naden (1858-1889) to clarify her religious, scientific and philosophical development and to assess whether the posthumous reputation created by her circle of friends is an accurate one.
