When AT&T first deregulated, Steve was aware of what was was going on in the industry and saw an opportunity. He found a way to use the current laws to help people save money on long distance. He formed Xtracom and became one of the first 'long distance aggregators' in the country. This helped business save 21% on their long distance costs. Things progressed and Xtracom then was one of the first companies to become a "switchless reseller", this move allowed him to cut long distance costs and increase savings even further. As the proof of the value of the service spawned amazing growth, Xtracom teamed up with Telsave (owned by Dan Borislow) that grouped several of us together to grow bigger, get stronger and eventually go public as Talk.com. When we went public, we installed our own nation wide switching network. As a group in a few short years we were able to cut the price of calling from Chicago to New York from 35 cents per minute to below 10 cents. Now as we know long distance is mostly free. Dan Borislow was instrumental in the next price cuts as he later went on to invent and market "magic jack". My deepest sympathies to Dan and his family. Dan died of a heart attack on 7/21/14 at age 52. Dan was one of the best people I ever did business with. He was tough yes, but his word was his bond.
