I am accountable for building the cyber practice, directing strategy, operations, and budget for risk management and the protection of Oxy’s enterprise digital assets. The scope of responsibility encompasses protecting infrastructure, networks, applications, data, and the industrial control systems that allow Oxy to safely produce and deliver hydrocarbons to market. Responsibilities include the policies, standards, procedures and guidelines to operationalize security at Oxy. The security practice has tripled in size the past two years and is rapidly maturing to a world class organization. I’m most proud of the Industrial Control System Security Program built these past two years to reduce the likelihood and consequence of a cyber breach in Oxy’s sprawling industrial control landscape in oil & gas and pipeline SCADA operations and DCS systems in plant facilities.

In this role, I led the teams that delivered hosting services (computing, storage, network), cyber security services, facility services, software delivery services, end user services, mobile services, voice services, and monitoring services, and industrial control system engineering. Major successful projects included: $20+MM end of life network equipment replacement, $13+MM PC refresh, $4+MM storage/backup consolidation and re-architecture, $2+MM virtualization expansion and consolidation, movement of one of two major data centers in North America, retirement of Server 2003, deployment of the Airwatch MDM solution, and implemented Cisco ISE at our major North America offices.

In this role, I was responsible for the teams that defined industrial control system standards for oil & gas SCADA, pipeline SCADA, and plant DCS systems. My teams of IT professionals and engineers, deployed, managed, supported, and protected the systems used to control oil and gas production, injection, processing, and pipeline distribution. During this three year period we standardized and refreshed the hardware architecture, moving to internal virtualized clouds at each production site, physically separated the business and industrial control networks at over 80 sites worldwide, and implemented separate automation active directory forests. We provided control application support and managed security patch deployment.

I became responsible for the delivery of all IT services to all Occidental sites outside of the United States. An international staff of over 140 IT professionals supported almost 6,000 users in 12 countries, including Argentina, Bahrain, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Egypt, Libya, Oman, Qatar, UAE, and Yemen. IT Services included infrastructure, telecommunications, applications, service desk, service delivery, and field industrial control. I was responsible for the international rollout of Oxy’s standard Oracle E-Business suite for finance and supply chain. During this period I also managed the sale and divestment of our Argentina assets which was challenging because it was accomplished in less than two months, and had to be delivered to the buyer as a functioning stand-alone company, replacing all the centralization efforts of the previous years.

I transferred from Oxy Oil & Gas into IT to provide a business representative on the IT leadership team. As I learned the new role I was transferred to Abu Dhabi and was responsible for the Standardization Program to ensure a common dial tone and common IT services to all Occidental sites in the Eastern Hemisphere. This included networks, storage, computing, applications, service desk, service delivery, and field industrial control systems. During this standardization campaign, Computer Associates Unicenter service desk was implemented at the international sites leading Oxy’s efforts for IT service management.

I led a team of twelve internal geophysical and geological experts providing high end geophysical and geological consulting services across the Oxy enterprise.

I co-founded Continuum Resources, a software development company providing products that improve workflows through: Integration / Collaboration / Visualization. I was responsible for developing new business opportunities, including the development of new methods to manage knowledge and visualize telecommunications, geological, geophysical, engineering, GIS, financial, and medical data in integrated, collaborative, immersive visualization environments. This included leading a team of twenty five professionals responsible for visualization and geotechnical consulting services, software testing and support, customer relationship management, training, and sales and marketing. I was responsible for the worldwide implementation of corporate technology and solutions in traditional and non-traditional areas of business. I was an officer of Continuum Resources.

I was responsible for the worldwide delivery of geophysical consulting services, technology, systems, and staff. I co-developed the EITS 3DTools geophysical analysis package.

Designed, planned, managed and implemented optimized land and transition zone 3D seismic surveys. Developed applications to streamline the 3D design and acquisition process which increased productivity by 25%. I also created various applications under UNIX to facilitate the performance of the work.
