I hired, trained and led a purchasing group of seven buyers with responsibility for procurement and supply management for the Integrated Closure System Business Line with a global spend of US$ 200 million. I also worked on the plan for sale of the business and the design of a new purchasing organization as well as establishment of new purchasing policies and procedures.

I had direct responsibility for setting and implementing strategies over a total global spend of US$ 400 million, comprehending corporation’s entire purchase of platinum group metals and copper. I led the corporate commodity risk management activity with Treasury Office and Sales to establish budgets and hedging strategies for purchased non-ferrous metals and energy

I led a global supply management team through major company-wide cost improvement initiatives. These initiatives led to successful implementation of material savings performance of approximately 2% on a global basis, in spite of an adverse business and economic scenario. I was jointly responsible for setting strategies on a total buy of approximately US$ 3.6 Billion on a global basis and accountable for ensuring corporation goals are met in terms of supplier selection, part sourcing, cost savings, supplier cost management, supplier quality, diversity spend, localization programs, supply base rightsizing, strategic sourcing, supplier suggestions, compliance to corporation’s policies and procedures, budget achievement, development of core supplier relationships and others.-Areas of responsibility include: chemical raw materials (Resins, Elastomers and miscellaneous), molded plastic and rubber parts, connection systems-related components and other chemical-related areas in the four main regions of the globe for all different corporate divisions, plants and business units.

I was a corporate purchasing manager with responsibility to coordinate the monthly executive purchasing staff meeting for the vice president of global purchasing. I represented global purchasing at the corporate Venture Development Board meetings and insured proper purchasing input was provided in the analysis of potential new ventures and I participated in due diligence analysis as required. I also represented global purchasing through Labor Relations to meet all union contractual requirements such as issuance of annual supplier memos, provide quarterly potential insourcing parts lists and attend face to face meetings.

I coordinated with country managers to establish a plan for awarding business to Asia Pacific suppliers and executed strategies for maximizing the most cost competitive supplier. I represented Asia Pacific suppliers at all weekly sourcing meetings to insure that full consideration is given to competitive suppliers. I reviewed numerous suppliers in India to determine readiness to become an approved supplier to GM. I coordinated Asia Pacific supplier introductions to GM US buyers and follow up on potential opportunities for business.
