Working in health care is unlike any other profession. I’ve worked on the government and public policy side, with private clients, payers, healthcare systems, non-profit associations—no matter what I’m doing, every day I ask myself, “What did I do to help improve someone's life today?” The ability to truly make a difference is what I love most about healthcare, and it’s at the heart of what is so inspiring about the work.Without a laser focus, you can get bogged down quickly by all of the complex details and regulation in this world. Making a deep connection with my clients, and ultimately the community, is a great way cut through the complexity and get things done. That's why I tell my team to keep things simple and always respect the people who are sitting across the table from you. We're all in this together.A major part of my role is to ensure our clients keep up with the latest in healthcare, and I accomplish this by:• developing strategic plans and providing hands-on help to organizations trying to embrace change• translating the complexities of healthcare reform into meaningful action• overseeing the government relations team and meeting with lawmakers to guide policy that improves system performanceOutside of work, I relax by keeping as busy as possible outdoors. My family has a vineyard on Kelleys Island, where I’ve cleared the land myself and planted thousands of grapevines.
