I ran my research group at Berkeley Lab for 17 years before 'retiring' in 2016 to start CinderBio. My lab had two core areas of research; 1) the enzymology and molecular biology of hyper-extremophilic microbes towards exploiting these amazing life forms to benefit society, and 2) the study of enzymes that function in DNA repair and impact cancer risk, immunogenesis, and aging in humans.
