I started working with the City of Calera's Parks and Recreations Dept. at 17 years of age. At the age of 24, I was promoted to be the Parks and Recreations Superintendent.When I started, we had 3 employees and maintained building and grounds maintenance on a 58 acre park, flowers and trees throughout the city, and city hall grounds maintenance. At retirement, I was responsable for the field supervision of 12+ full-time employees and several part-time employees during the spring, summer and some of fall. I was over the building and grounds maintenance of 300+ acres of areas, such as citizen-used parks, sports complexes and their facilities (concession stands, press boxes, lighting maintenance for all sports fields and facilities), recreational parks, Arboretum parks, citizen-used facilities, industrial parks, municipal buildings, trees, flowers, shrubs, interstate exits, and citizen-used green areas. I also handled Management of Physical education green areas, play grounds and sports fields for the Calera Head Start, elementary, intermediate, middle and high schools and public works related job duties. In the 10 year census, Calera had grown 238%. I have completed master plans for the new Eagle park sports complex and George W. Roy Recreational Park to meet the needs of the city's growth. March 1, 2015 was my 25-year anniversary with Calera and I have retired at the age of 42. I look forward to the opportunities that are ahead to pursue new challenges and career goals in life. I intend to pursue my career in the field of Parks,Recreation, Sports turf, field maintenance, lawn care maintenance, landscaping, building/grounds maintenance and public service .
