About Steven Mendoza

Hello! My name is Stevie Joe, and I am an Environmental Professional based in Los Angeles. I am currently building the Climate Action Program at L.A. Works, the oldest and largest volunteer center in Los Angeles. Under my leadership, this program has mobilized over 3,000 volunteers toward habitat restoration, urban greening, and wildfire mitigation efforts. This resulted in 2,000+ trees planted, 31+ acres of National Forest restored, and 7 underserved schools provided with new gardens in the program’s first year. I also project manage the California chapter of the National Conservation Paleobiology Network (CPN) working group based in Los Angeles, also known as PiNE (Paleobiology in Novel Ecosystems). My role is to facilitate communication between scientific researchers and environmental practitioners, including city planners, environmental engineers, habitat restorationists, and other environmental professionals, to use deep time records to make more informed decisions surrounding habitat conservation and restoration. In addition to my work, I am a graduate student in the final year of my Environmental Studies M.S. Program at California State University Fullerton, where I am learning various technical skills pertaining to environmental management, including basic GIS, basic California ecological regulations, habitat conservation skills, and technical writing. In addition to this, I also have experience with the following:Project management and leadershipEvent planning and coordination of groups of up to 1,500Extensive knowledge of California plant and wildlife Educational program development and facilitationAdvanced community engagement skills Strategic Partnership management In my free time, you can catch me hiking, swimming, native plant gardening, or reading comic books.I can't wait to connect with you!
