Hooked on technology since age 4, it started as gaming, but became much more.I had my first exposure to programming as part of a Computing A Level in the form of (the now somewhat universally dreaded) VB6 & VBA; I quickly moved to C# in which I wrote everything from auto-clickers to my own database engine.I joined the professional world just following the 2008 recession as an analyst, but I soon found more and more that I was using code to solve problems and knew that software development was my true calling.After being headhunted by a former employer as a business analyst my technical skills were noted and I was soon pulled into the development team as their DBA.Writing T-SQL procedures querying billions of rows quickly taught me the value of performant code and the limitations of the language. It wasn't long before I was working the full web stack and back-end realtime IoT message processing systems; a few years after that I took the position of lead developer.2010-2020 has been a truly amazing time - there have been massive changes across the wide world of technology, not just the brutal life and death of JavaScript frameworks but AI going from a pipe dream of academic institutions to wide-spread adoption, Quantum computing forging ahead towards commercial viability, the meteoric rise of IoT not to mention the strides of progress in robotics.Given what we've seen over the last decade, I can't wait to see what comes out of the next one and look forward to doing my bit as a small cog in the massive and ever expanding world of computer science.
