Stephen serves as IBM’s Sports CTO and is an IBM Distinguished Engineer. He has led the Sports and Live Event team within IBM’s iX studio in Atlanta Georgia for the last 10 years supporting the technical delivery of IBM's Sports and Entertainment technology partnerships. These partnerships include many of the world's most recognizable and prestigious sports and entertainment properties. Across this span of time, Stephen has successfully led the digital delivery of over 200 major event projects and has built one of the most successful delivery teams in IBM. The work Stephen and his team perform serves as a showcase of IBM's capabilities and real-world examples of technology in action.Prior to leading the team, Stephen worked in various technical capacities on this same portfolio of projects for 14 years including backend and frontend development, technical architecture, technical leadership, consulting, database development, system administration, web analytics, video streaming, technical logistics, CDN, etc. More recently, Stephen has continued to be hands-on with technology and is actively working with AI intelligent workflows, computer vision and cloud application architecture.Stephen’s passions include solving challenging problems with technology, learning new things, good teamwork and helping his partners be successful. Throughout his career, he has innovated continuously and has delivered many first of a kind solutions including the first live video streaming solution for a major sporting event to an iPhone app and the first live video streaming workflow for a major sporting event in 4K. His work has helped lead to over 70 industry awards for IBM and it's partners including twice making the Fast Company Most Innovate Companies in Sport list. He has also contributed towards over 26 filed patents and over 30 pending across a broad range of technology areas.
