Working with designers, faculty and instructional designers to develop the Forum Learning Environment in new directions - from collaborative documents, and collaborative programming, to new forms of assessment and feedback.

Research on scripting and orchestration in MOOCs

Conceptualizing and carrying out mixed-methods research on UofT MOOCs (Coursera and EdX) and flipped/hybrid courses, coordinating research by multiple stakeholders, designing secure data storage and policies for access, employing visualization and analytics to inform institutional decision making.

Enabling collaborative- and inquiry-style learning in large undergraduate classrooms with mobile technology, intelligent agents and pedagogical scripts.

Researchr is an open academic workflow, using Ruby and rb-appscript to "glue" between BibDesk, Skim, Dokuwiki and more. It enables the integration of citation management, PDF reading, exporting clipping to the wiki, and higher-level work with the clippings. In use by more than 10 graduate students.

Helped conceptualize and found the project, part of the leadership council (later board member), involved in all aspects of management, fund raising, outreach, design, community facilitation and research.

Together with Leslie Chan, co-designed and taught IDSB10: Knowledge and Communication for Development (http://idsb10.pbworks.com/) as part of the UofT online pilot-project. Participated in all aspects of the course design, delivered 50% of the lectures, and provided student feedback and grading. The course made heavy use of Open Educational Resources, and all the instructional material generated by the two lecturers was also published openly with CC licenses.

Helped design the structure and policies for a DSpace Open Educational Resources repository (http://oer.avu.org), and imported 84 OER modules to the platform.

Participated in two emergence response operations, the Yogyakarta earthquake with support and coordination from the main office in Jakarta, and the Jakarta flood with field work surveying community response, and distributing clean water kits. Participated in a number of village health trainings, translated a manual on breastfeeding from Indonesian to English. Helped coordinate information and design for a new website. Added significant features to Boxroom, a Ruby on Rails knowledge-repository application, and customized it for use by CARE Indonesia.

Facilitated planning and construction of an internet café in a cooperative of people with disabilities, including training administrators and installing a high-speed satellite link. Also assisted in day-to-day health related tasks. Converted a large website (http://www.politicsofhealth.org/) from a CMS to Dokuwiki using Ruby scripts.

Helped develop campaign strategy, designed website and produced an interactive online educational game for children.

Did research on internet censorship, including translation of Chinese documents.

Arranged seminars, contacted journalists, did layout and produced publications. Supervised the complete rewrite of institutional website (a $70.000 project).

Prepared curriculum and taught oral English to seven freshman classes of 45 students each. Integrated innovative approaches such as role play, debates, "finish the story", discussions of current news and creativity exercises.
