Signicat has a long history and a sprawling organizational and technical landscape, making it the perfect environment to use and refine my problem solving skills.As a Principal Engineer & Domain Expert I work fairly independently across the organization with whatever challenges and opportunities I find important and interesting.The main theme throughout my work is managing complexity. Reducing complexity, managing complexity, understanding complexity & architecting solutions to minimize complexity.Depending on the circumstances I try to maximize impact and results through a variety of technical and non-technical approaches.Examples of things I've worked on the last couple of months:- Find the root cause of latency issues in our next generation Kubernetes platform that turned out to be fundamental to how Google Kubernetes Engine is architected and probably affects many users of GKE unknowingly. (Blog post on this coming soon)- Decommissioning legacy systems and infrastructure that have proved very stubborn to remove.- Improve visibility of cloud services costs to aid in better decision making in a way that is useful all the way from individual developers, department managers to C-level execs. This includes exploring existing solutions and data sources, defining new terminology, gathering requirements from relevant parties, coming up with an architecture that can provide value very quickly and yet be extensible to whatever future requirements and directions we take, and develop early stage POCs and MVPs.

My primary occupation when not doing side-quests with startups or other initiatives.I work on short and medium-term contracts for clients requiring very senior capabilities in optimization, cloud, infrastructure, DevOps, SRE and similar.
